May I suggest you study, analyze and learn the meaning of Coach Doherty's words; "I want to build a program. There is a difference between a team and a program" Its what I have been trying to say for 10 years. Forget about 1 year winning streaks over TCU and start from scratch to build a PROGRAM that will allow SMU to have long term sustainable growth and success. TCU has a PROGRAM-SMU hasn't completed the foundation yet.

C'mon...what does a recruiter from Frogland say to a recruit (in your opinion)?

I can't answer for Stallion, but I imagine it goes something like this:

We are a top 25 team, SMU isn't. We compete for conference titles, SMU doesn't. We go to bowl games, SMU doesn't. We have winning seasons, SMU doesn't. We never got the death penalty, SMU did. TCU respects its players and coaches, SMU fires them for burgers and Cheer. We have improved our conference affiliation and left SMU in our dust in that regard. We get on TV more than SMU, and get more and better coverage in the local press.

All SMU can offer you is one fluke win over us in 2005. Come to TCU and you can help us make sure that never happens again.

I would point to the consistancy in winning over the past several years and build on that.

That is why I have been and continue to be a Bennett backer. He came in with a plan to build a program and has been doing that. His biggest mistake although he has made many on the learning curve, was trying to micromanage the offense the first year. He then realized the need for an Offensive Coordinator and that cost him one year plus lack of progress shown which affected recruiting. I had wanted good progress last year when he first came, but with the lost year, I am counting on significant progress this next year or a new course may be needed. He has everything in place for a successful season. Now they have to perform. Then when they do it for 5 or more years in a row, we should be able to outrecruit froggie high.

...wait a second. If I'm a TCU guy, right now I'd say "don't flatter yourself. You think TCU cares that much about SMU?" C'mon...I thought TCU was now competing vs. BCS schools and the like, not SMU.

Okay, maybe I answered the wrong question. But we all know that on some level we are talking to common recruits, and I guess I thought that was the questions. Sorry for the confusion. Anyway, the better question is what does SMU tell them to keep them from TCU? Jeez, I hope we got more ammunition than last year's game....

We are going to milk this for another year until we play them again, aren't we? Statements like this show how far we have really fallen since the DP. TCU's program is clearly superior to that of SMU's to the extent that the 05 win was the biggest win for SMU in the last 20 years. We seem to think that one win in six tries makes our prgram on par with theirs. No way! That win was a fluke as the SMU-TCU game was sandwiched between TCU's game with OU and thir Thursday nite game with Utah. It proves nothing, but it does make some of you delusional.

I will admit, however, that our win over the Frogs was the most fun I've had at an SMU game since the Kansas game. But to keep throwing that game out as a rebuttal to Stallion is ridiculous. We are getting there, but we have a LONG way to go. TCU was 11-1 last year. SMU was not 12-0, we were 5-6
