Why not Wait...the new battlecry of the losers.

A key recruit may slip through the cracks because he's at a 2A school or maybe he was hurt, but the fact of the matter is that elite players choose early where they want to go, unless they want to be on tv during signing day.

I though SMU did an above average job (going on CURRENT SMU standards here) last year with late commits (Yenga, Bailey, Bell), but there's a reason the UT's and A&M's have their recruiting classes locked up pretty much before an official snap is taken during the year. To get to where we need to be, we need to lock up more guys like Josh LeRibeus early, before the well runs dry.

I think recruiting might be down this year with Bennett's possible lame-duck status. This year really is sink or swim for SMU Football

Letting Bennett stick around for another year was a mistake. You can bet the farm the other schools are telling the recruits that they will not even know who their coach will be next season at SMU. Will Bennett be back next year? Who knows but history tells us that he won't. When was the last time SMU had a winning record / bowl game appearance in the same season? It has been a long, long time.

It would be nice to have had T. Dodge as the coach and the players he will bring to N. Texas.

Would you like to back up your "stat" with some kind of evidence? Your negativity is quickly becoming an irritant. I understand if you dislike Bennett, that's your choice and your right, but honestly, what crystal ball are you looking in to and reading our future for the fall? These recruiting websites don't know everything.

Let's allow Dodge to actually coach a college game before we anoint him as a messiah like those NTSU monkeys. He is getting recruits off his hype, which is well deserved after his success at SL Carroll, but not off of anything else.

I say we all chill out and don't obsess about a recruiting class that we have until early February to fill. None of us will know the whole story until signing day anyway.

I think that this year 100% of us can say that if SMU doesn't go bowling, Bennett's done. It may have been repeated for the past few years, but this is it

Oral committments are non-binding. If Dodge falls on his tail, you can bet some of his committments will look elsewhere. If SMU has a great year some players might very well look again at SMU especially if they're looking at riding pine at A&M or Franchione gets the axe.

Folks,
We've covered this ground before and the point has been raised that recruiting will be compromised to an extent because this is the make or break year for Phil. I think we can all agree that this era will continue or cease by Thanksgiving.

And as for the Rivals offer count at whatever it was, I wouldn't put much stock in that vs. the other CUSA schools because of the way we recruit and who we target. It's probably more. How much? Unknown.
