F Tyler Lee. This won't make a bump in how coaches accept Jones and his staff. Being a hs coach I can tell you that coaches are foaming at the mouth for the opportunity to go and talk football with Jones and his staff.
.........................You are exactly right.
As I said in the other thread, Mike Owens controls the Tyler media and has for years. And you've just read example of that control.
Paper Tiger. He can bellyache, get frustrated, and carry on a walleyed fit. He should. It sucks all around, and Ross & Co. should get an earful on it. However, it isn't going to matter. I may seem glib; I am. I don't mean disrespect to anybody, especially Dews or Owens, but their opinion on future recruiting is little more than a speedbump. Bergfeld is one of the oldest families in Tyler (Andy is School Board President). Brookshire...well...he is giving money to this exercise. TISD will not be off-limits to Jones & Co. It is silly to really think otherwise. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992

As I said in the other thread, Mike Owens controls the Tyler media and has for years. And you've just read example of that control.
..................Maybe so, but he needs to LEARN TEXAS is bigger than Tyler. You can't say all that BS in TEXAS about "how we do things in Texas" when HE KNOWS other schools in the area ( both SEC and BIG 12) with coaching changes have pulled scholarships of Texas recruits within the last few weeks. It happens all the time. Owens would not say Arkansas or BAYLOR can't recruit at Tyler Lee and neither would the other coaches who had their kids scholarships pulled.....So the whole thing is just a shot at SMU because he thinks he can get away with it, but other media, he does not control, understand the TRUTH in my point......I would have some respect for Coach Owens if he stated the FACTS and admitted this has happened recently and in the past at other area universities and say SMU coaches along with Baylor and Arkansas coaches are welcome at Tyler Lee.
Have you ever even been to Tyler? Hillbilly and snuff are terms that apply much better to areas of DFW than they do to Tyler. Before you post insults, at least try and make sure there is at least some basis for it. Let me explain something to you. I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me.
Bobby Petrino didn't pull anyones scholarship. He cancelled a visit to devin thomas and he decommitted.
Theoretically, if I'm Jamal, I listen to EVERYONE, get the perspective, see what fits best, use my football coach as a source -- NOT THE SOURCE (and this goes beyond just Owens), talk with my parents, and then make the best decision possible. And generally speaking, when it comes to recruiting, the good high school coaches advise and DO NOT INSTRUCT their kids on where to go.
I'm from Tyler - and honestly, I would be pissed too if I were Owens. What's the problem with that? Owens is a good coach and has a solid rep in town. Say what you will about his quote - but in the same shoes most on this board would say the same thing.
Not a great foot to start on.. BTW.. Don't count on Brad Brookshire getting involved - that's a laugh. Brad and Ann are great people, but they're just slightly busy with more important things. The funniest thing mentioned on this board is the fact that anyone knew Andy Bergfeld was from Tyler. The only time he caught a pass was when Romo threw it hard enough to get stuck in his face mask. What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
On the other hand this could create a postive buzz among Texas players that SMU's standards have gone up with respect to the kind of players they are recruiting.
Also, SMU fans should be encouraged because this indicates that JJ expects to fill his scholarships, and with good players. ![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Again, this has been grossly distorted.
Every committed recruit was told by the Athletic Department, once Bennett was let go, that neither the school nor the player was committed to the other. This is no surprise. And as to the timing of the ultimate callback, Owens may want to remember that June Jones only hit the ground last Tuesday, and then was quickly off to Houston. By the way, when was the last time you saw a high school coach jump up on a soap box when one of his players changed his commitment? (And, yes, it is true that Bennett repeatedly said that the biggest mistake he made when he came here was honoring Cavan's deathbed commitments.)
Apparently, there are some people pretty upset by this. One supposed father of a recruit that's been offered by SMU is reconsidering... Posted on other board by win1free: "My son was offered by Coach Jones, but reading about this makes me wonder about the Coach, to put a kid out in the cold makes no sense!!! SMU took its sweet time in getting a coach and asked the recruits to please hang in there and this is how this young man is rewarded." Geaux MUSTANGS! Geaux Tigers!
That doesn't surprise me. I can't say I blame the parents and recruits for taking time to look at this report. Any time a coach rescinds a scholarship offer, you have to take the time to learn more about the situation and question his commitment to players.
Some of you were silly to think this would be positive or at least neutral in SMU's recruiting efforts. This likely won't cripple our recruiting, but it definitely away some of the buzz we had going from the hire.
