Mrs. Bell, we are GOING to win here at SMU under Coach Jones, and win very soon. The education he would receive here will indeed be better than what he can achieve at K-State, and the contacts he will make at SMU will also be very beneficial when his playing days are over. We all hope he will look at SMU very closely with the new regime and commitment to win that is now in place.

I think Mrs. Bell makes a good point about her boys needing the right fit w/ academics and athletics. Regarding hating to lose, granted we're coming off another losing season, but SMU has a huge upside. New staff, new priorities, etc. K-State has to contend with what will be a resurgent Nebraska team, Mizzou's continued success, and the Mangino machine in Lawrence. Don't forget Hawkins is starting to get his system solidified in Boulder.
Given those factors, I don't know that there is that big a disparity in potential for success over the next four years at SMU vs. K-State.

Dustin was thrilled when JJ came aboard and it did make him go hummmm. If Dustin doesn't go to SMU it won't be because it doesn't sound like a good thing, it will be that K-State fits him both education and athletic wise. I personally would love to see both my boys together again. They are very competitive and feed off of each other and can hype each other up. They both can't stand losing and will give it there all as you will see hopefully this year from Derrius.
We already saw last year how hard Derrius plays. He came in and got stuck on special teams for much of the year, and played his heart out, and when he got a chance on defense late in the season, he was one of the real bright spots on the team. To have another Bell in the secondary .... let's just say all PonyFans would be thrilled to see your sons playing together again, too.

First, I applaud Mrs. Bell for posting on pf.com. Very few parents of Mustang athletes have taken the time to do this.
Second, Mrs. Bell is to be commended for looking out for the best interests of BOTH of her sons and their futures.
I enjoyed watching Derrius at Hillcrest High in '06 and at SMU last year. I would be thrilled to see BOTH of the Bells on The Hilltop!

I agree. The Bell Boys are winners and we would be honored to have both of them

He needs to do what's best for him. Not what's best for us.
GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!

K. State v. SMU. SMU is a much better education in a better city. K State ain't nothing to brag about in the Big 12. It gets real cold and lonely in Kansas. Question: do you want to be a difference maker at SMU?

I commend the fact that all of you commended the fact that Mrs. Bell posted on here. Perhaps cake and cookies would be more persuasive.

Thanks guys for your interest in dustin. When I say he'll do what's best for him, I don't mean that SMU education isn't better. I meant for Dustin situaton it would be better it fits him and he has a better chance of finishing college there. And no Dustin isn't a genius or close to one but he has learn to get his work done to stay on the playing field. Although I preach to all my kids to get it while you can, they say honestly I go to school because I love sports not because I love school. That's just kids being real honest.
Please don't tell me what a failure that thought process is. Although Dustin hiccuped at UTEP he didn't give up. He looked at his options and knew that he either goes to college or Goes to College. Both of those options was acceptable to me. We stress education but we love sports in our family.

Sounds like with a mom like that, he's going to finish school somewhere. Kudos to you, Mrs. B.

are we committing NCAA violations with each subsequent post in this thread?
FWIW, Phil Bennett even chose SMU over K State

No, but I will personally writie him a check for $1 million if he comes to SMU.
That could be in no way considered an NCAA violation.
