Sheridan is on the way to Pine Bluff, but has 4 different properties which buildings are on. They have two elementary schools, one in Sheridan, one in East End, a Jr High, and High School.
I dont live to far from there myself. I am in White Hall.

I apologize. My memories, late on a Friday evening, of SMU futility run together.
Two former Mustang Club Presidents called Mike Cavan and implored him to take Welker. He wasn't interested in the least.
The rest is history.
He would have crawled here.

As it turned out, Welker's one and only offer was from Tech.
Think about it.
Again, be smart. Trust Jones.
You know what? I might get into some personal trouble for saying this, but you shouldn't feel slighted by Bennett. After all, he blew off a SMU alum who, by his own admission in his interview with the Daily Campus when he first was hired, had been his primary introduction to football in the first place. Incidentally, though the article didn't say it, this SMU alum was the reason that Bennett wanted to go to SMU while in high school (his mother made him go to A&M...this was not just public relations b.s.).
Well, either Jerry forgot to mention it to Phil (as I understand it, Jerry was sent the message), or Phil himself just decided it wasn't worth it, but there was a prominent Louisana recruit that was highly interested in SMU who didn't even get a 1st look, much less a 2nd look...and this SMU alum didn't even receive telephone call responding "no thanks". BTW, the recruit wound up starting for Arkansas. Nice job, there, Phil.
So clearly, either one or both the Bennett brothers didn't appreciate advice on recruits, even from people that Phil talked up as important to him.
I hate it for Phil. I really, really do. But the truth is the truth. And I am pretty sure that it wasn't the first time that either he or Jerry blew off an alum's advice or a clearly solid recruit. He clearly demonstrated that he ran the show...right off the cliff. It is what it is.

ArkVar...
Top 25 was a teammate of the great mrydel, his wife is from Pine Bluff, and she insists that if we are taking a kid from Sheridan, he must be a player.
Question for all of you ....was not Top 25 dead on about Orsini's having everything under control and about June Jones' coming here?
Have faith in our new coach.
Relax.
And enjoy.

For Bryce to lead Sheridan to a winning season, she is correct. Sheridan is not a football school. They are one of those team you would love to schedule as a warm up/scrimmage game.
No disrespect to the Sheridan program, but they are not a football school. They are a baseball school. The majority of their baseball player go D1, after they either win State or get close to winning it.
June Jones is the reason Bryce committed to SMU. Other schools including Arkansas, Tulsa, South Carolina, and a few D2 schools offered him, but not a full ride like Coach Jones did.
Remember in my interview, Bryce stated that "Coach Jones is a winner" That is why he is coming to SMU, along with getting a full ride, which you cant blame a kid for doing with the price of tuition these days.

In this case, we better camp out in little rock. I played for KEvin Kelly at Pulaski Academy. He, in my opinion is one of the best hs coaches in the country. They run the spread and produce top notch receivers and qb's every year ( Cruz Williams committed to AR this year) and Thomas Thras holds the record for most passing td's in a season.). Coach K was actually written up in an espn article recently on his offensive philosophy. Outstanding coach and person.
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.

Thanks for all the info, ArkVar. It's always good to get insight from people who are closer to the situation. Much appreciated.

ArkVar,
From the way your article reads, it sounds like the previous coaching staff made the original offer, but when JJ was hired that was the thing that sealed the deal. Am I correct?

You're right. I think it's Poyen where they are on the same campus. I hope he can help us in some form.

I have long advocated recruiting in Arkansas. There are plenty of good players and many would like to go to elsewhere then the University of Arkansas. We do have a history of kids coming from Arkansas, but not to the extent that we should be recruiting. Just imagine if Darren McFadden or Mitch Mustain had wanted to see Dallas. I wonder if we even gave them a call.
And yes my San Antonio ponyfans poster, the same would apply to recruiting the San Antonio area. It is just that recruiting Arkansas does not offer the same competition that recruiting the State of Texas does.
Oh yeah.....Top 25, I appreciate the kind notice but please point out it is your wife that is from Pine Bluff and not mine (mine might wonder what is going on) and in the future, please be sure and capitalize Great when it applies to me.
