An optimistic view of the situation is acknowledging Jones' apparent enthusiasm over the two classes he has touched so far. Can anyone find a negative in that? Granted, I would love to have nothing but 3 and 4 stars, but i don't feel all is lost if June thinks these are the most talented kids he's ever recruited. Hopefully, we'll get to those blue chips someday, but it sounds like we're getting what JJ needs to win in the meantime. Let's walk before we run.
What do you expect JJ to say? Of course this is the most talented group he's ever recruited...show me one coach this year who will say otherwise about his recruiting class. JJ's recruits, imho, seem to be on the same level of PB's first class. The main difference, and to me the most important, is Coach JJ has a proven history of producing a successful program. I don't care what the f'ing recruiting services say about our players, as long as we win. And JJ has proven he can deliver that. That's what I'm most excited about.
Of course, had he committed to Arizona or UCLA and mixed in a couple of offers from strong non-BCS or a couple of middle-rung BCS schools, he would have been a three star. I don't know what his offers were, and I don't really care. All I know is this is just another typical rating done via politics.
I understand Stallion's logic about a recruit's star rating being predicated on the number and type of offers he has received but this rating mystifies me. From all of the articles that have been posted on this board concerning the kicking camps he has gone to and the display he put on at these camps, I assumed he would be at least a 3 star. I suppose kickers may be rated differently than other position players but I thought he was at least in the top 10 in the nation. Maybe I misread the info about him.
When will I start feeling stimulated??
he had no other offers but a lot of schools don't offer scholarships for Kickers. Instead they just use walkons. Plus there is no position where a scholarship player is expected to start immediately and throughout his 4 year career ofyen with no scholarship competition-meaning there are few scholarships availiable each year for kickers
