I don't mind being a fall back school if the guy is good. There is always the possibility that his #1 won't offer, or if they do, that when he gets there something will happen and he will decide to go transfer to his fall back. The problem I have, is that the guy is just so small. I'm bigger than he is, granted my weight is less muscle and much more fat, but even so, I'm smaller than the size of the average D lineman.

I would be carefull reading too much into the story. Remember the reporter was charged with writing a "story". It wouldn't really be much of a story, if it read "top defensive lineman considers SMU offer". Granted, the kid may feel slighted, everyone would like to have a large number of offers to choose from. He maybe pleased with SMU or as the article implies have another favorite. I would caution him that offers are conditional, like "musical chairs", the offer may no longer be available if and when he finally decides to accept it.

If he is a 5'11 senior ldefensive lineman he should not even have our offer, much less anyone else's - noseguard or not. Lets stop recruiting smurfs - only exception - slot receivers. No more 5-10 safeties, 5-11 DL's and 6 foot OL's - EVER. You are better putting weight on a taller athletic guy.

A friend of mine went to the Plano vs Wylie and saw this kid play last night. He said that this kid can really play! He was giving Plano fits all night. When I first told him about Whitlock he was kind of nonchalant about looking at him, but after the game he said that this young man is the best HS defensive lineman he has ever seen play.

He has been watching HS football for years. And this was not some country 2A team that Whitlock was doing this against.

I was at the same game, and based on his analysis, I hope that was his first HS game. He was far from the best I've seen this year. Close but not the best

Still a positive comment about the young man by another observer.

Plano put up 38 points on that defense, but the Plano RB, Rex Burkhead, who has offers from TAMU, Michigan, and Nebraska, managed 41 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Thanks mrydel. I was catching up on some old newpapers and saw the story on this kid. I did a search on his name before I posted and found nothing. From reading this thread, his last name is mentioned but not his full name. However, it seems I had read the on line version of the story and posted about it back in early October in this thread. Too much iof BUS's cooking and tequila, I guess.

At 5' 11" 240 i hope he has great speed and we are recruiting him at LB. If we are to recruit DTs ( which we need more than anything in my opinion. We will have plenty of decent DE's next year with a few good ones coming in, but will lack serious depth at DT with 3 Dt's being seniors) i hope we get guys that are already big that can step in early if they have to.
