Let's say we do add Clinkscales- I would like to think he could have a Williams-like JUCO impact this next season. That would give us 6 sure fire rotation guys: McCoy Williams Clinkscales Nayakundi Faye Dia Haynes showed a lot of promise towards the end of next season and I suspect will be a rotation guy as well. Add in maybe Frank Otis for a gritty inside player, plus the JUCO sf you are wishing for and your smaller, quick lineup wish has come true.
I would have added several ????? after Dia's name.

PapawasaMustang:
What I'm saying is that SMU will ideally sign only 1 more guard and 1 more inside guy. Therefore, if they think they might have a shot at Vilarino-should find out by Friday when he names his Top 4, SMU may be slowplaying Clinkscales-get it. Its one of the other at Guard. Maybe that's why the Clinkscale commitment rumor was squashed.

I agree that Dia pooped in SMU Hoops' cereal last year, but he is still the same guys that put up close to 10ppg and 7rpg as a frosh. One good year, one pretty poor year. Even if you end up with something in between the two he will be a rotation guy. Lets hope he returns to his frosh form though.

I don't want in between 10 and 7 from Dia. He's capable of 13 and 8. In fact, he should have been doing that. The UAB game was proof. I'm sure that's why the staff is possibly struggling with the idea of going after a 6-7 guy this period.
They have Dia and Fade. Each is capable of being solid but is tremendously inconsistent. The question is would they risk banking on those two and not recruit or not trust them to raise their individual games and go find somebody else.
Of course, with the slew of recruiting information we're getting about this program, I know their philosophy inside and out.

I understand & that's what I think may be happening.
I'm very interested to see how this plays out. We have got to get some inside help. A lineup with Dia, Faye & RN as your post & forwards would rank as one of the weakest front lines in the country.

Honestly, Dia has a horrible attitude and work ethic (and I was one of his biggest fans a couple of years ago). I just don't see him playing every play, and, for as strong as he is, he always does that stupid fade-away at the top of the key.
Maybe he will turn it around, but for now I don't see the motivation necessary to be that productive. RN worked his [deleted] off to get back on the team and has shown that he can put in the time to be a player.

I watched Dia very closely last year & I thought his lower body was pretty weak. He looked soft to me. Maybe his back issues limit what he can do in the weight room. Also, I like RN but he is more of a wing. I would love to see him learn to take the ball to the hole more instead of just the j shooter. He also needs to get alot stronger. Countless rebounds taken away from him last year where he had inside position.

a school like SMU shouldn't give up on a prospect like Dia. Come on where are all the guys talking about Coaching and motivation? There are plenty of players tthat have Sophomore slumps and big men that develop late. Dia was never a polished prospect in the first place-he never dominated even in high school-he projected to be a solid prospect. Now is the time for Coach to earn his money. not much of an alternative. Coach Doh just must realize that his future probably revolves around developing Papa Dia.

I see RN playing 3 not power forward. You need a wide body at power forward who can shoot from six feet in and knows how to block out and has strong legs and a rear the size of Texas.

I believe that to be very true. The guys showed flashes of being a really good player, especially his freshman year.
