Woodson was pretty good, but he was no Jake Farley.

Welcome to SMU, Jake!

If this is him (recruiting video) he certainly seems to have a nose for the ball and can certainly put the hurt on a receiver.

Farley is a big, physical and athletic skilled football player. His has impressive size and quickness for a big man. Shows the versatility to play runningback, safety, quarterback and special teams. One of those guys that never comes off the field. Has the size and toughness to play outside linebacker...

Jake Farley Football Athlete Notes - Cedar Falls High School 09-10

Lemming Notes: One of the more physical SS prospects you will find. On Film–Jake has a take no prisoners style of play and has been blessed with good instincts, size and strength. He's one of those kids that was born to play football. He grew up around the game with his father, Mark Farley, playing ball at Northern Iowa and now coaching, and his Uncle Greg Farley played ball at SDSU. Jake can do it all at the high school level, he plays QB on offense showing pretty good arm strength and excellent leadership skills, but it's on defense where he will wind up playing at the next level. As determined as they come, he's super strong and is known for his hard hitting style of play. He also has the body control to break down and make plays in the open field. Stats–Carried the ball 25 times for 250 yds and 6 TDs and threw for 4 others at QB. He totaled 94 tackles, 4 picks, 5 QB sacks, 12 tackles for losses, 3 caused fumbles and 9 passes batted down at SS. In one game he totaled 15 tackles and 2 picks returning one of them back for a score. Grades–His GPA is 3.9. Benches 350 and has a 36" VJ. Favorite Schools–IOWA, WI, MO, UNI, NE, NORTHWESTERN, IL and IOWA ST.

Jake Farley
Cedar Falls, Senior, Football
The Tigers\' two-way standout caused havoc on both sides of the ball Friday in a 31-7 win over Cedar Rapids Prairie. Farley threw a touchdown pass at quarterback and recorded seven tackles and an interception return for a touchdown from his strong safety position. "Jake is a three-year starter that does an excellent job preparing himself each week," co-head coach Brad Remmert noted. "He spends the extra time studying film to put himself in position to make plays. Jake is not only a great student of the game, but also an excellent student in the classroom." The returning first team all-state defensive back also participates in track and field.

Coach's kid = student of the game.

HE could end up being a big contributor and leader in the secondary.

Great pickup for the Ponies.

Not sure if "reach" is the right word. Really more of a best athlete on the team that relied on him to be everywhere on the field. Jack of all trades, master of none. Not his fault, team couldn't afford to develop him in one area. If this kid is making all state teams as a multiple position player, imagine him finding his roll and studying it full time. I can see why the coaches are excited: coaches son, great athlete, smart, film room rat, etc. These are the guys you want on your team.

I don't know why, but this story sounds eerily similar to Zac Line's. Mid-west kid from out of thin air who plays multiple positions and is the team's star. I think we can all agree Zac has turned out to be a nice piece to our SMU puzzle. We should be able to put him back at his natural position of linebacker next year with the RB class coming in. If you disagree on Zac playing well, take a look back at a few games and see how many times he made huge blocks to keep Padron or Bo Levi on their feet. Remember, he was a true freshman.

These guys are football players plain and simple. Bring me a couple of these guys and year and they will instill work ethic and leadership.

Although it is very important for the bulk of your class, recruiting isn't always about stars, accolades, and offers. I trust JJ's eye for talent.

Watching the video, he reminds me of Joe Sturdivant. Upright runner with a nose for the ball.

the only thing that makes him a reach is his lack of offers, which could just be him keeping quiet about the recruiting process. Otherwise he has the size and stats to be a real player for us.

He did have a BE offer from Louisville, so that's better than some prospects.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

With all the comments I have heard nothing about speed. A person might be all state in Iowa that would not even make that in Texas. As far as the coaches son thing goes that does make you a good D1 player. Cody Hawkins is a coaches son and he is on the bench at Colorado. Of all of the reports no mention of his speed. Again not that it is good or bad just no mention.
