Hard to find a thread anywhere on PF w/out TCU in it

Nice offer list for Ladarius - all the big schools.

We need a few more studs. Houston is right on our tail on this list.

Is it because they have a lot more 5.7 3*'s? And most of our are 5.5. Or do all 3*'s count the same?

yeah I think they just count stars for average per recruit. Wonder why they don't average the secondary ratings ie 5.5 5.6 etc.

Well, regardless, college football is about talent acquisition and we don't get a draft each year. To paraphrase Reinnebold from the documentary, we aren't where we want to be, we could be better in some places, but thank God we aren't where we used to be.

That kid has quite an offer list. That's the kind of WR we need in this system to give Padron some truly dangerous targets to hit. Little dissapointed we haven't been in on many skill players of this caliber so far.

We need to be on these local kids. Waxahachie is 25 minute drive to SMU. Aldrick graduated from WISD. Obviously, Ladrius wanted to stay local.

This is going to be interesting to watch from a tecnical perspective. SMU has 435 points on Rivals BEFORE the Levingston commitment. He should be added soon. Let's see how many points are awarded to a 5.7 commit as compared to a 5.9 commit (204 points) and see if the disparity is reasonable.

Stallion, I know your views on star inflation, but these last two classes seem to have a lot of talent. This current class is a top 45 class, right there with a bunch of solid BCS schools.

Stars aside, how do you view the talent in this class and what's your opinion on how our team will look once these gusy become starters?

Even accounting for inflation, the offers are off the charts compared to past years the last time I counted-there are some inflated ratings in SMU's Class but this should be the best Class-not "since Dickerson and James"-but since the mid 1980s. You saw in Pony Excess that the 1983 Class that got us in so much trouble was highly touted. The last couple of classes in the 80s were limited by NCAA scholarship limitations. I can't really remember too much about the 1984-1986 Classes except that scholarship reductions, bowl restrictions and bad press combined for disappointing results. In 1986 for example we only gave out 15 scholarships. The NCAA was taking SMU down even before the Death Penalty. I think you should combine the average scores for total points and average per recruit for both Rivals and Scout. If you are anywhere in the 50-62 range then you that is a strong indication that you have an outstanding non-BCS class. Right now we fit in that range-above that range in Rivals.

I'll leave it up to Recruiting Guru, Stallion and some of the other recruitniks. But having followed SMU football pretty closely for 25 years, I think it's safe to say this is easily the best recruiting class since...

maybe 1983. It's difficult to ascertain how well the later classes would have panned out because they were decimated by the Death Penalty and never reached maturity/potential here.

It's also difficult to compare apples-to-apples because recruiting as we know it today (with the Internet lists and rankings) is a relatively recent phenomenon. Rivals and Scout (nationally, not just at SMU) I don't believe are even as old as PonyFans.

I would love to see someone do a Rivals analysis of the 1979 SMU recruiting class.

OK SMU got 120 points for signing Levingston(rated 5.7) and TCU got 204 points for signing Ladarius Brown(rated 5.9). Not as much as a difference as I feared. SMU now at 42 for Total Points and 39 for Average Per Recruit.

Crazy what kind o turnaround it is. Have to think all the NFL connections help. JR's twitter feed is always talking about NFL coaches watching, and I bet AK slides his rings on when he meets the recruits.
