Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentFrom ESPN...front page of recruiting board...
Robert Lewis, RBSouth Gate, CA Feb 25, 2011South East H.S. (CA) Position Rank (RB): N/A SMU lands ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Robert LewisRunning back/receiver Robert Lewis of South East HS (South Gate, Calif.) has committed to the Mustangs for the Class of 2012. Lewis (5-foot-10, 160-pounds) chose SMU over an offer from Colorado and interest from Oregon, Oregon State, Fresno State, UCLA and Washington, among others. As a junior, Lewis rushed for 901 yards and 11 touchdowns. He added 27 receptions for 384 yards and three scores. He becomes the first 2012 pledge for the Mustangs
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentWelcome to Robert.
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentbeing in the ESPN top 150 should make him a 4 star, right?
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitment
All of the players in ESPN's 150 for 2011 were 4 star or higher. Same can be said for Rivals 250. Snuffers cheese fries
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentBut I believe right now he is a projected ESPN 150. He still has a lot of high school football to be played. Hopefully he will hold the rating.

SMU lands first 2012 commitmentThe guy has garnered comparisons to Reggie bush. Not a bad start.
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentLet's not get to excited this sounds like the type of kid that doesn't recieve a lot of early offers becuase he is a bit undersized but when signing day nears gets more serious looks from the bigger schools. It's a great to get a kid excited early about SMU but I won't be surprised if he lands in ESPN's 150 a school like Oregon poaches him from us.
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitment
If he gets poached that's fine, the important thing is that Klemm is continuing to get top California talent to seriously consider SMU. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security
-Benjamin Franklin
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitment
You mean attempt to poach him. They may go after him but it does not mean they will get him. Klemm has held of some other high profile schools before schools before. If we did lose him Oregon would know that they've been in a dogfight. I think Coach Klemm will hold off the opponents. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentGuys I don't want to be a downer but we have really only won 1 recruiting battle against the big boys out west and that was for Moreland who was a good recruit but still well below the 150 level. the reports I heard was he wanted to be a big fish in a smaller pool than just an average recruit, someone in the 150 probablt won't have this issue. Klemm is a great recruiter but we haven't won a battle like this would be(not saying we can't and are chances are better than others would have because we do have Klemm). I'll get excited about this guy in October when he has other offers and from the Big Pac-12 schools and he remains firmly committed.
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitment
You don't consider Levingston a big recruit out West? Look who we beat out for him, including Oregon (who he lists in the recruiting roundup as one of his favorite teams). Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!
Long live the Circle of Champions!
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentDontae was a good get but he is not the caliber player that an ESPN 150 player is, My point is that a player that is an espn 150 will be recruited nationally and we have not had a battle like that before. Moreland is the best player we have landed since the 1980's and that was his primary reason in choosing us, will another player have that same criteria I don't know?
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentLivingston had offers from Florida, oregon, Usc, UCLA, ect...
That isn't a big enough recruit for you??
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentThis must be one helluva athlete to be so undersized yet so highly regarded.
Re: SMU lands first 2012 commitmentJust win baby... and they will come.
Go Ponies!!
