Re: Junior DayThere is not one poster that is upset about Klemm-get it Einstein? We want to know what the other 7-8 Coaches do in their spare time. I'm beginning to think that SMU's strategy is for Klemm to present virtually all offers to just about all SMU target prospects-with Reinbold filling in the cracks here and there. The other guys just probably babysit their territories.

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Junior DaySorry, disagree regarding "Klemm Mania." It's not overblown, especially relative to the other coaches on this staff. In 2011, he pulled a 4 star and 6 3 stars. He's also the recruiting coach assigned to the most high profile recruits we're going after in 2012. Story after story and interviews with prospective recruits speak very highly of his ability to build a relationship on a personal level and sell SMU one individual kid at a time. You can dismiss that as being biased and influenced by the source of the information, but there is a definitive pattern.
It is all about the other coaches.
Re: Junior DayI think throwing all of our recruiting eggs into one basket w/ Klemm is a really bad idea. That's a lot of responsibility for one man and the burden should be shared by the entire staff.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Junior Day
I'm aware of Klemm's track record. But recruiting is based on the whole staff pulling their share, building relationships and flat out outselling the other guy. That's great Klemm had a great year in 2011. What happens if he swings and misses more in 2012 and the other guys continue their same pattern? I don't disagree with coaching staffs having a lead dog. But all of these guys have to do their share. June also has to close when they're on campus. If what Stallion said is true about the philsophy of this staff, then I do have concerns about that.
Re: Junior Day
That's my concern.
Re: Junior DayIt is all about building relationships--with players when they are 16 and their coaches. Lots of handwritten notes and phone calls when permitted, then evaluation as they mature. Klemm has the formula, hope he can get the others on board. But, as I mentally go down the list of our assistant coaches--position coaches as I exclude our two coordinators-they've got their hands full, I don't see many that have the potential to get with the program. It will require June to stongly back him up, and maybe some "culling" of old friends.
Re: Junior DayI wonder a little bit about Odum, seems like a very likeable guy and strong work ethic. I hope he can pull up the rear so to speak in the next year or two in recruiting.
Re: Junior DayBeing a coach at a local HS I've been very disappointed with the visibility of SMU at our campus. The last couple of years, we have sent out a few D1 prospects and I think SMU has been there once maybe twice. Pisses me off when TCU is a fairly regular visitor but not my Mustangs. The Gaggies were in yesterday with OU looking at some of our players and Dat (A&M recruiter) was very interested in two of the kids. The other coaches always ask why doesn't SMU come around more and I have no answer. Never ever seen them at a spring practice and I see almost everyone else you would expect. We are certainly not a football factory over at my place, but there are players to be looked at and my Mustangs seem to care less. Not real pleased with their presence in the area.
Re: Junior DayYou should forward your thought to orsini or the powers that be....
I agree we are not attacking the metroplex...I am disappointing in our reliance in 1 individual, amongst other things...
Re: Junior DayShould reach out to Hollingshead. A coach at another hs had similar comments..I emailed Hollingshead and he called the same afternoon
Re: Junior DayThanks for sharing Me. I would express your concerns with the staff. That is not good when TCU is all over it and we aren't.
Re: Junior DayRemember, this is what everybody signed up for when June arrived.
He told the masses he wasn't the typical breed of football coach and will do things differently. Now, he's using contacts across the USA to get in the doors of kids, which is great. I can't get a read on his approach to Texas. Do you judge the number of offers to Texas kids as the program's commitment to the state? Do you consider Me's situation more of the exception than the norm? I quick counted the 2011 and 2010 classes. I think 18 of the 26 in 2010 were from Texas and something like 16 of the 27 in 2011 are from Texas. So it's more than half. Does it mean that these figures have to be 80-90 percent? The only thing I can think of is that June and his staff have specifically targeted some kids, kept the recruiting on the down low because their players don't have the visibility of say, Oklahoma State is recruiting in Texas. The TCU people can speak to it better, but as they were getting really good, they went after kids who they projected to be better in different slots. Yes, TCU was in Texas but they weren't climbing the Rivals charts either. Maybe they had a way of evaluating kids that others didn't and it's consistently worked for them. Maybe that's what happening at SMU.
Re: Junior DayOnly problem is you can't project and evaluate if you don't get off your butt and visit these high schools--summer camp is great--but late.
Re: Junior DayQuestion. How are we doing in recruiting? There's always room for improvement, but how are we doing? Are we bringing in the types of players who will excel in this system? That's the only question.
Re: Junior Day
Odum actually, to me, seems to be doing a fair job. Although, he seems to be concentrating [deleted] Florida. But, there is a good chance we could bring in some good FL players this year such as Elston Lane. Snuffers cheese fries
