That's fair. But how do you respond to the assertion that whatever we're doing appears to be working? Are we not making apparent progress, including a commit just today from a non-Texas guy with multiple BCS offers?

WHat happens when current staff leaves?

If you can't see Stallion's point on this, you are either dense or just trying to argue to argue...

This staff is not balanced correctly and I don't expect it to change...I thought we had a shot when we were looking for special teams coach to make a statement but we didn't.

I am not saying Ganz wont be a great coach, but I have not heard 1 thing about him out recruiting...which is incredible because we just grabbed him from UCLA, and thats something he can sell to kids...

You can talk to people behind the scenes, Jones and a number of his assts. have no desire to recruit, which is fine because they are exceptional coaches, but we are putting a lot of the back of one guy....Better keep upping you mustang club donation because a lot of it went to Klemm to keep him from looking elsewhere...

In the short run we may be ok, but we lose klemm or JJ and we have built no base here...

I want an answer to my question. Ignoring the GPS coordinates of the candidates, how do we appear to be doing in recruiting right now?

What happens when there is ANY turnover with coaches on a particular staff? This might be the most transient industry going. And when a new head coach comes in and brings in a new staff, he has to start all over anyway.

If some of you are really convinced that this is a stagnant approach, then you're clouded in your thinking.

I would like for this staff to do a better job in Texas. But we can all agree that the 3 best states for recruiting are Texas, California and Florida. And if SMU -- which by the way still carries a pretty decent national name -- can consistently dip into those states and get players, then what are we talking about here? The kid that committed to SMU on May 18 has a pretty decent offer list. Some schools are odd but when you beat out West Virginia and a couple of others like that, you're selling something right.

As long as June has been in the game, wouldn't he and his staff be darn fools if they didn't use the contacts they have developed nationally? I'm not sure if the likes of Stallion and mexmustang believe that recruiting Florida and California is a bad thing or the program is spending too much time there. If either or both or anyone else truly believes that, then they're the darn fools.

Plus, those kids don't have the stereotype impression of SMU that the Texas kids do. I believe that is still out there.

On the flipside, I don't want to take Texas kids that might be considered leftovers. That's not productive either. I recently talked to the Texas HS coach, who I've known for years. I asked him about the SMU angle in the state. Without coaxing an answer, he said they need a big win to get kids to change their minds about them. So he validated my argument. I realize that's one coach but it's fair to say that if he's saying that, how many other coaches share the same thought process?

We have to show the Texas kids we're serious about consistently winning and that this 2-year streak isn't just a passing fad.

Just my take.
