Wilrey Fontenot?

Someone recently told me that they had 25 ships to give this year. We have 21 comitted...and I think we're really making a hard push for Thomas Derricks. If we pick him up, along with Galbreath, Fontenot, Steptoe, Martin, and possibly John Scroggin, the 6'5" reciever currently committed to Minnesota. Apparently the coaching staff knows something we don't. They've offered a LOT of ships to interested players...they might have to tell some players that they might only be invited walk-ons or partials...thoughts?

First thought is that we have 20, I think. Poynter has been erroneously listedf as a scholarship guy, when most people now are saying he's an invited walk-on.

Second thought is that I think it's fairly standard practice to offer more scholarships than you have spaces - not everyone is going to accept. (Unless you do like Cavan and only offer a few players, most of whom had few other options. He always bragged about how he bagged a high percentage of his offers. I'd rather have this class than any of his, no matter how many offers are given out.)

Out of your list (and others who supposedly are still available), I want to see Coach Bennett get Thomas Derricks, Toby Kaiyewu, Wilrey Fontenot, Syndric Steptoe, and John Scroggin.

None of our coaches know where that story came from. I'd recommend scratching the prospect from your lists.

I think Kaiyewu would be an excellent pickup, but since when did we show any interest in him or vice versa?

According to the Morning News and rivals, Kaiyewu has been interested in us from the start. Unfortunately, he still has a lot of schools he's considering. He's a state Top 100 guy (#99) on the Rivals list.

The Morning Snooze prints Bobby Burton's Rivals list, right? Is Burton really that far out of date? He writes a column for the paper, you'd think he'd make sure the list is up-to-date.
