Re: More on MasseyAnd there's this:
Massey went to San Antonio recently for that All-America game. He didn't get any carries, per coaches' orders. But just 2 days after getting the cast removed from his leg, he ran a 4.4 in the 40 and squatted 635 pounds. That, my friends, is amazing.
Re: More on MasseyAnd as for his projected total had he continued on that pace: his coach said he averaged about 240 yards and a couple of touchdowns per game over his last 4 or 5 games before getting hurt. Pretty dominant, in my opinion.
Re: More on MasseyPX - Thanks for the clarification (re: Tre Giller)
My mistake!
Re: More on MasseyThe Waco Tribune Herald has him at 1328 yards on 186 carries 7.1 yards per carry and 20 TDs. That places him 5th in the Waco area in 3A. I doubt if he is even in the Top 20 rushers in 3A this year. Hey I love this guy-think he's rated right about where he should be-but some people above compared him to Eric Dickerson and said he'll have 1800 yards in a couple of years. I followed his high school career closer than anyone on this board. He had at least a couple of poor games and did start to put it together during the last 3 games before he was hurt in the first quarter of the last regular season game. Just don't know if he is ready to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame yet. He didn't post DOMINATING stats in a lower classification like an Eric Dickerson, Billy Sims, David Overstreet, or Bam Morris. There's a pattern on this board to build-up players to unrealistic standards and later tear the kid down when he doesn't win a Heisman by his Junior year. That being said he is the best prospect at RB since Reggie Dupard.

Re: More on MasseyIf he is the best running back prospect since Dupard, are you putting him ahead of Jeff Atkins (Parade All-American) and Bill Jones?
Re: More on MasseyI don't think Bill Jones ever made it to SMU because of academic difficulties-if he did he flunked out his freshman year without playing. Actually, I think Jones went JC because I remember hoping we could resign him. Something tells me he never played at SWTS or Division 1 but instead hooked on directly with Kansas City because Lamar Hunt was familiar with him. Its been awhile. Atkins was a year or two behind Dupard so I guess it would be more accurate to say Atkins. Really, according to the expert's Massey is not in the league of any of the 4 great Pony Express Players who were in the Top 10 RBs in the nation. What is Massey about 40th? Dickerson was perhaps the No. 1 recruit including all positions. James was DOMINATING at the 5A level and carried his team to the 5A championship with well over 2,000 yards. Dupard was a national Top 100 Player. Atkins was a Parade All-American who never really lived up to his incredible hypw because he had only average speed. A few weeks ago we had guys come on these boards and attack BHop 3 games into his college career-I just don't think its fair to compare Massey to those types of national GOLD chippers.

Re: More on MasseyJones did make it to SMU, but was kicked out after his freshmen year. Off hand I dont remember if it was for his grades, the damage he did to the dormitory, or if assaulting his RA was the final straw. I can tell you some amusing stories sometimes if you want to hear them.
I agree that any comparison of Massey to Dickerson is ridiculously premature, but you know thats how it goes around here. I'm sure you remember the same thing happening a year ago when Shanderrick had a couple good games.
Re: More on MasseyHope he can compae to Atkins coming out of high school. Contrary, his problems were not so much on field, as off. If the kids can keep their heads straight, they can do it. Jeff lost the goal. Hope we get this kid, and he keep his head screwed on right.
Go Ponies!
Re: More on MasseyJeff was a great college player-I think he ended up with about 3400 yards at SMU-but he was just a step or maybe two to reach the next level. Dickerson could have run for 2500 yards in the WAC if he just played 75% of the offensive plays.

Re: More on MasseyMy mistake. Massey's 1700 yd, 25 TD season was his junior year. Adding the two more games he missed due to injury this past year and he was on pace to get close to that his senior year. Still, 7 yds per carry is still pretty incredible.
Only time will tell how he does on the next level, but I can't wait to see it. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: More on MasseyMassey averaged 171 yards and 2 touchdowns per game over the nine games in which he played this season, according to his coach. His dominance came toward the end of the season when he was averaging well over 200 yards per game as his offensive line began to gel.
So the comments on this board are right: Massey is a special talent, with the POTENTIAL to be a special college player, as long as the offensive line and the rest of his surrounding cast do their parts.
Re: More on MasseyActually he only missed the playoff game with Marlin this year, as he got injured in the 4th quarter of the last regular season game with Waco La Vega.
I am sure that he averaged over 7 yards per carry this year, at least that is the figure that comes to mind. His brother, and speed burner Donald accounted for alot of rushing yards from the QB spot in several games. Hillsboro runs a shotgun spread offense, with 4 WR's and one RB as their base package on offense. A tough non-district schedule, and a MUCH tougher district after realignment might factor in to production. He had a great season.
Re: More on MasseyI was saving the note about his brother. Donald is a 5'11", 175-pound QB/WR for Hillsboro and is considered by some track coaches I've talked with to be a "world-class sprinter." And he's extremely strong for his size (although not as strong as Richuel) and still growing. He's been clocked electronically at 4.24 in the 40! He's run a 45 in the quarter-mile and about a 21 in the 200 - which are exceptional times. He wants to go someplace where he can play football and run track, and SMU already is very interested. Better yet, he and Richuel are extremely close, and everything I've heard has indicated that there's a very good chance Donald will follow his brother to SMU. Keep your fingers crossed - his speed is rare, and his potential is enormous. There's a long way to go between now and then, but he'll be a welcome addition wherever he goes. He also will be very heavily recruited.

Re: More on Massey4.24? Are you kidding? That's about as fast as anyone in the NFL!

Re: More on MasseyI heard that he was running downhill (a 45 degree slant) and the wind was behind him at 40 mph. But I cannot confirm these facts.
