Football does not due to the cartel. That changes the type of player available to our football team. We can do it much better than we have been by emphasizing it, hiring some young stud recruiters and giving a better academic path for the athletes, but we are never going to compete with top ten teams for recruits until we are in a better conference.

If you don't have as much talent isn't the run-n-shoot supposed to somewhat equalize the talent differential?

Going forward, it is even unrealistic to expect Jankovich to pull in top 5 players once Brown retires. Larry Brown at SMU is an exceptional circumstance and I take nothing away from what he is doing. The foundation he is laying is phenomenal, but still Nick Saban at SMU could not get it turned around as quickly as Brown is getting it done. I think the right coach could eventually get us there, but it would take more time and effort than it does in basketball.

Why I would rather see Ulric Maligi get the job after Larry retires. He could pull in the top 5 players. . . He's the one doing it now.

As long as the next coach keeps this basketball staff they will do well imo. LB's staff has a lot more to go with getting these recruits than they are being given credit for imo. If Maligi leaves LB might not be getting to many more top 10 recruits. But the question Reb raised is regarding football. If USF can get 4 star recruits ans others with BCS offers with no bowl last year and with attendance problems it would seem if we could get several kids with BCS offers.

The USF coach has not been there for a year but has more players with BCS offers that June has and June has been here for 6 years. Just sayin. Staff issues?

Recruiting is a whole different subject then what is on this subject. I don't know a thing any SMU fan should do to recruit players. The fact is the larger the crowd the more inviting it is for kids to play sports at a university. Yes there are exceptions. Some kids want to go to the school their parents went to, etc. However, 'size does matter.'

TWSS.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Agree - Attendance matters.

But I would like to address POS Doug Gottlieb.

Suppose that Doug is upset that his OSU Cowboys are about to be on probation - something that he should be quite familiar with.

First off, Doug was expelled from Notre Dame after one year as the starting PG for stealing credit cards from his roommate and others in his dorm.

He then used his daddy's connections to get onto the team at OK state - which by the way lost out on Emmanuel. I am sure he is not bitter about that.

The girl is a former Ms Teen USA.

Quite a combo when it comes to brainpower on that show...
