Let's also not forget that he was VERY close to playing 2 sports at UNC.
Would love EG to get an opp w Larry Brown after HCCM wins 9 on his back.
1) He is horrible 2) He wouldn't be able to practice with the team until the Fall 3) He is really horrible 4) He would be a stop gap solution that hurt the development of Hicks/Davis/Other. Other than that, he is a perfect fit.
5) He throws a lot of picks 6) He fumbles a lot 7) He's dumb & cheats other than that......

He came unglued at the end of the season. He was undefeated for his first season except the NC game amd started out amd played very well against FSU away. Then it all fell aprt so not very accurate to just pick a certain part of his actually experience. He'll go through spring training and work towards graduating in may. I dont see him as starting next year at ND but even though it's only a hypothetical he's better than anything we have now so wouldn't be so quick to think we're now at a point to dismiss someone who was a starter at ND.
FD - you're calling a student athlete dumb? I guess all is fair game then...

Bingo footballdad, that is where most of the Golson hate comes from - his ND uniform. Make no mistake, he has a turnover problem, but if you watch him you know he can make all the throws. Don't be surprised if this kid is on a NFL roster at some point, although he is small. That said, I doubt Coach Morris would see him as a fit anyway.

no confirmation on the transfer but EG has NFL aspirations. He won't get there being part of a QB committee @ ND. Couldn't HCCM fedex a playbook to EG while he finishes his last semester? During EG's time away from ND he worked with QB guru George Whitfield. Made great strides but nothing substitutes for game experience (as we saw this year). Being away from ND spring ball and immersed in the x's & o's of HCCM system might allow EG to make some noise and play Russell Wilson for us next year. I just want HCCM's first season to be as big a success as possible: taking a flyer on EG is no skin off anyone's nose, esp with our depleted roster. So do we hate ND (& thus Golson) or do we want to win?

Will he get there being a part of a depleted roster @ SMU?

Nah, we just don't need him. Digetydog's #2 & #4 most importantly. One year does nothing for us. He's a proven, mediocre college QB. Put the effort and reps into Davis & Hicks. Davis already a better athlete, Hicks already a better arm. Let's see what Morris can do with these guys.

as an Irish alum I want EG to stay Irish. ND needs all the legitimate backup help we can get for Zaire a la Tommy Rees' function for EG in 2012. best case: EG stays and ND boasts a poor man's Leak / Tebow combo. knowing EG's NFL goal, staying Irish doesn't make a lot of sense. BK having EG in spring practice is curious to me. Either BK is allowing EG to stay sharp for his next opportunity (read: trusts EG not to transfer to a potential opponent - hello SMU!) or BK will spend the spring recruiting EG to stay. As the son of an SMU alum I want the ponies to win in the short & long term. EG is a winner and I think he'd make a splash for SMU & HCCM Season 1 to really let us overachieve. Garrett Gilbert / Russell Wilson blueprints apply. EG hasn't hit his ceiling (not close IMO and i think BK agrees).

Gilbert's teams weren't depleted. Since Golson only has one year left why not do what Wilson did and transfer to another P5 school?

Since my sister went to Notre Dame, I will admit to hating Touchdown Jesus and all the Fighting Irish BS. But, the simple fact is that he is not that good and would only have one year of eligibility left. While I sm optimistic (probably delusional) that we can get to six wins and a bowl next year, the reality is 2015 is a rebuilding year. The number 1 priority should be finding a good QB for 2016. Taking a graduate transfer QB (with 1 year of eligibility) works when a good team needs to plug a hole at QB. When he is mediocre at best, it is simply a bad idea. Finally, there is no way he plays QB in the NFL. Above all else, nfl QB's can't turn the ball over.
Do unto others before they do unto you!!

Only an actual leprechaun would think a QB of his size with a lack of skill and a knucklehead habit of turnovers could even think about the NFL.
