Benson is a top 100 ranked player nationally at his position being ranked 91st nationally. Highest ranked commit in the class. Big time commit.

So would you say these first few Morris classes are very similar to the first few Fran classes, or are we are on a different trajectory?

Benson was the one I was pretty surprised by and is the highest profile kid to this class so far IMHO. Imagine if we get Audie and Mahone? Imagine Audie, Mahone, Fitzgerald and Wallace! (ok, Fitzgerald is a big reach . . . but I'm wondering if we show competitively against the whackoffs and blow out NTSU that some of these guys might actually start looking at us . . . would be great to be "IN" the bu and tcu games going into the 4th quarter (like the TTU game a couple of years back - I'm not holding my breath, but if we could just keep it competitive and win the ones we "should" win rather largely then maybe just maybe) . . . then 2017 will be MONSTER not to mention 2018 being the best post-DP by a mile . . . then we are on our way . .

Fran's first 2 first TCU classes ranked 5th and 3rd in the state. Probably a little more difficult these days to out recruit P5 schools because the cash is flowing into their programs in unprecedented ways

I'd like to reiterate what blackoutpony said-I don't think some on Rivals even know. SMU targeted Rau-that's the guy they want at TE/UB/FB. Scout has documented over months that SMU had another 6-7 traditional TE with several top P5 offers in their back pocket for about 3 months but they wanted Rau and waited on Rau. You've got to trust your coaching staff in that kind of situation when they get their target. Their thinking is that the TE/UB/FB has to perform several different versatile skills when they shift or go in motion which the 6-7 kid would have trouble performing. I was getting frustrated they were letting a "sure thing" get away while waiting so long on Rau. But they got their man. Good work

Blackout - congrats- when stallion references you positively you know you've made it!!

If we can beat expectations this year - which to me means 4 games or more, and staying in all of the AAC games and 1st half in Baylor and TCU - I think we could have a really nice roll working. He can come out with a "right on schedule" addition to the recruiting pitch. Every win over 4 really amplifies that message.

I like the P5 offers that Benson and Rau have.

Totally agree with Stallion. TCU' went to and won the Rose Bowl with two and three star players. See Tank Carder.

I think Stallion's point was more to that fact that they had recruited players with P5 offers. Nothing to do with stars one way or the other. 57% percent of the players have P5 offers. Previous class had about the same amount of star but not many had P5 offers. Remember a June Jones team went 1-11 with 2 and 3 star players. If over the years they can get to 65% of the commits having P5 offers the team will be on their way.

I know but my point was so many people look at the number of stars.

They are probably right as most teams that have 2 and 3 star players don't win big. SMU is just trying a different angle now. We'll see if it works. I believe it will. I also think that once we get a decent season behind us that Coach Morris and staff will land a 4 star player or two to mix in the class. Houston won't be the only one landing 4 star players in the future in my opinion.

Give UH some credit. They got a little lucky with the top DLM being the brother of a UH player but they also did what SMU did by signing a great assistant coaching staff with great Texas ties including the HS Coach Corby Meekins who had great ties in the Houston area including some studs at his own high school. 12 out of 14 UH commits are from Greater Houston. I think if anything its a validation of what SMU is doing with its own coaching staff and what needed to be done around here for 25 years. I want AAC schools to recruit well-I want SMU v UH to be a National spotlite game. The only way to survive in the near term is for the AAC to be considered the No. 1 G5 conference. BTW recruiting mediocrity is slowing eating away at the Big 12 right now-they've got a problem as a conference. Perception of a conference can sink the individual schools and vice-versa

SMU and UH will help push each other and further competition for top G5 recruiting classes. One great part of UH and SMU competing is that it undercuts the ability of lower tier Big12 (and Big10 I have noticed) to recruit well in DFW and Houston.
