I stated that even if he accepted it there was always a scholarship or two that was used for someone other than the "best athlete" available. This kid may prove to be the second coming but I sure would have rather used this scholarship as an offer to James for publicity and legacy purposes rather than just fulfilling the need for a JUCO QB.

Adam James would get SMU the front page of the DMN. The publicity would rival Kindle and Stafford.

You've said some ridiculous things on your "get more exposure" campaign, but that takes the cake. That's completely inane .... at best.

Welcome to S.M.U., Corey.

from the Seattle Times newspaper:

Corey Slater, an All-KingCo 3A quarterback in 2004 for Liberty who played junior-college football this past season for Dixie State College in St. George, Utah, has orally committed to play for Southern Methodist University next season.

Dixie State assistant coach Terry Duffield made the announcement. Duffield is a former Ballard High assistant who helped recruit 11 players from the state of Washington to Dixie State for the 2005 season. Duffield said he plans to join the staff at Eastern Arizona Community College for next season.

Dixie State, which had Washington State recruit J.R. Diederichs as its star running back, went 9-3 and beat Garden City of Kansas in the Rotary Bowl.

Projected DMN Headline: "Following Dad's Footsteps to the Hilltop" by Calvin Watkins

That headline is precisely why Adam won't be a mustang next year.

Now back to the thread...I am all for giving Corey his chance and I hope I have to eat my words next year. The fact is that we took a prospect who couldn't get a scholie offer from D1AA Montana out of HS and offered him after a rather horrible first year at a JC.

I am all for projects and hope that Bennett sees the diamond here but I get anxious when a kid can't get a sniff from any other coach including those that were in his backyard to see all those great stats and games mentioned in "more on corey".

Now, Corey, go out there and make me eat my words!

Just curious as to whether the trophy for this Bowl is a replica of an old rotary dial telephone.

This postseason comment about our heralded Platoon JUCO QB:

"Neither player could win the job outright as they shared time all season"

Corey Slater had 840 yards passing on 4TDs and his co-starter had 808 yards passing on 8 TDs.

Well, that and the fact that he hasn't been offered.
