Quit making excuses for your coaching buddies. It is undisputed SMU has a bottom ranked recruiting class. SMU missed out on most of its QB prospects. I do not believe one player chose us over TCU. The coaches are not going to admit in public that they missed on most of their target players. The recruiting services are not an absolute when ranking players, but they can provide a school an idea of the overall quality of talent they have. The fact that many of SMU's recruits were not offered by BSC schools tells you how highly regarded they were coming out of high school. I hope the coaching staff has identified some players that simply fell through the cracks, but the odds are against you when 3/4 of your recruiting class are these type of players. Time will tell with wins and losses but to say SMU had a great or even good recruiting class is a flat out lie.

Justin Rogers, Ryan Kennedy and Adrian Haywood also were lightly recruited coming out of high school. You want to give them back? Neither do I. The fact is that the "ratings" that people slap on a class while the players in that class are still high school are relatively meaningless. Sure, we'd all like to see a class with the next Reggie Bush and the next Vince Young. But if this class brings the next Justin Rogers or the next Ryan Kennedy or the next Adrian Haywood, I'll take that, too.

Say what you want about the perception of SMU's recruiting class being "undisputed." I'll answer that by saying the team went 5-6 this year, which makes it "undisputed" that the team is better than it was last year or the year before or the year before that or .... Personally, instead of listening to what some website editors who never have seen the players in action, I'll focus on the fact that the Mustangs are getting better -- maybe not as quickly as we'd all like (I'm guessing most of us would like to see a nice big bowl invitation), but I enjoy the fact that the program is getting better.

That is what it looks like. Same with Houston and Rice. Heck, UNT, Ark. State, Tulane, La. Tech, Tulsa, etc. for that matter, too, because they were not mentioned either. But yet, somehow, the SMU coaches are the ones that made a mistake.

If the issue isn't stars, but offers, and this kid got no offers, then how can you possibly fault the coaches? If SMU did offer, you'd point out the kid got no other offers.

apparently, even Texas Tech did not offer this player a scholarship...and they offered the world a scholarship this year in signing 35 players...some with criminal records.

Can't fault our coaches on this at all.

Does anyone have any idea why no one offered. Talent? Potential? Size? Grades? Attitude? Crime? Luck? I hate to bash an 18 year-old just because he is a "wallflower" at the recruiting "dance".

I don't know. It just doesn't make sense. There's an issue with academics, discipline, the law .... something. I wouldn't be surprised if he already has a handshake agreement to go to WTA&M, get good grades and keep his nose clean for a year and then transfer.

Sometimes a person can do everything right, and it still doesn't work.
Is what it is. There are enough others out there that are not biting that something is not kosher.

Next.

i have missed this b/c i didn't read page 2.. but I believe that i heard thompson signed w/ w tx a&m.. awful.. we really should have picked this kid up.. why do you ask? Look at his stats.. that not enough... look at his team.. they sucked.. still not enough.. i saw him play in person and can for a fact testify he is a game breaker .. he was basically playing against texas hs football varsity w/ a jv team(as his own team)..
it is a real shame we lost him.. he will be a gem, but of course no one will ever know.. cause honestly how many of us are goin to keep up w/ WT

the coaches dropped the ball on this guy

no i will cover my own [deleted].. i speaking solely on his ability which i saw w/ my own eyes.. should he have personal probs, I have no idea.. he is talent and now is a lost talent two D-2
