just what we need yet another midget at QB.
The guy is also to slow to play QB here. We need QBs that not only have a good arm but can move, get out of trouble, and are faster than the Defensive Line.
Don't get too wrapped up in Stallion's QB platitudes. He’s still bemoaning the fact that his boy Chris Phillips never developed and was moved to TE.
well none of Phil Bennett's QBs have developed into anything other than bottom level CUSA passers either-so I guess I have company. Plus I thought the claim was that Phillips had a career ending injury not that he was a bust. Which one was it? At least its easy to find where Phil Bennett stands as an offensive genius every year-just look to the bottom of the CUSA Total Offense standings and your see to see Coach's Phil's genius at work. Phil Bennett has made the wrong choice as starting QB each and every year of his head coaching career. His choices of which QBs to recruit seems to be just as bad. Actually he recruits good QBs each year but all 15 of them turn him down. The QBs he signs have never been average. Quite a record.
He's a tight end now -- accept it.
Be a little supportive and who knows, he might even become a good one. Then you can go completely crazy and even offer one single sincere statement of support for Coach Bennett, his staff, the team in general .... might short-circuit the regular thought process, I realize, but give it a whirl.
Come on, PB had no quarterbacks to start with and of those he got 2 were emergency JC recruits and one got injured.
Now we finally have a chance to see HS QB recruits coming up so let's just take a breath and see what happens. ![]() Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
I can see where a rotator cuff injury could be a real problem for a QB. I've had a problem with mine since December and it was just a matter of a little inflamation...it is taking a very long time to get back to being able to do normal activities with out feeling pain in the process. No way I could be throwing passes with any amount of zip on it...or distance.
Hey guys, lay of Stallion a bit.
I know he can poke and prod things from time to time, and some of his statements are way out of wack. But this isn't one of them. Sure, you have smaller QBs who can be successfull. That is true. But your odds drop considerably. There is the occasional Brees or Flutie, but they are rare. 6'4 is the optimal height for a QB. A 6'4 QB with an improper delivery basically makes himself 6'1. I'm with Stallion. Usually your 6'4 QB isn't all that mobile. I would rather have a 6'3 guy with mobility. The problem is our guys are 6'1 and under. They are mobile, which is good, but they lack in height, that is just a fact. I would be more comfortable if we had some taller guys and we just took a shot on a shorter player. I don't think Stallion is saying that the kid isn't a good player or anything. He could be. Any recruit could turn out to be a good player. But I get a lot more excited about prospects who fit all the numbers, rather than players who have size but are too slow, or are quick but lack size.
Again, Stallion.....which QB would you like for SMU to go get? jtstang, your just like stallion, your going to find a bone in ice cream.....
In Bennett's defense (or his coaches' defense), I thought Romo developed into a pretty competitive QB while he was here. If Willis can improve year after year like Romo did and we have him for 4 years, we may all be pleasantly surprised before he's done.
It doesn't matter how big your qb is, if your line is good then that is all that matters..
Good and not a foot taller than you. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
I hate to break it to everyone but it isn't coincidence that college as well as NFL coaches prefer bigger QB's. All else being equal a coach will take a taller QB 100 out of 100 times. This guy could be an excellent prospect but you cannot discard comments about shorter vs taller QBs.
I think Willis is going to be a very good player for us in spite of the fact he is undersized for his position. If he were 6'4 with his current skill set we probably never would have had a chance at him coming out of highschool. And again to the previous poster: Arm strength is not the number 1 reason taller QBs are preffered. The top reason has to do with field vision and the height to effectively throw through passing lanes. If you were to move on to the second most reason I would say it deals mostly with durability issues and having the size to take hits.
