He is passing on a trip to JSU (Jackson State). I still do not think SMU is even in the picture. I think the Big 12 comment was ignorance of the writer, and the SMU is actually Southern Miss, again stated as the Mustangs out of ignorance of the writer.

I have said the same thing. I am almost positive SMU is Southern Miss.

It does not look like the writer is making the mistake. Lee's quote is the only place where SMU is mentioned, the writer is not being ignorant in assuming the player must mean the Mustangs since he said SMU. Also, the article has now been corrected to refer to C-USA rather than Big 12, not that the correction helps us differentiate between SMU and USM of course.

My first thought was to agree with Mrydel that it is likely that the 18 year old kid simply said SMU thinking that was the correct abbreviation for Southern Miss. However, I noticed that Lee also said he was flying up to SMU.

He is from outside Jackson, MS which is about 100 miles northwest of Hattiesburg. From what I can tell from Google/Travelocity, the only airport within 50 miles of Hattiesburg is the Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport which is 20 miles from Hattiesburg. According to Travelocity there are no direct flights, and the only way to get there with only one stop is via Memphis. The trip takes over 4 hours and costs over $1,500. Wouldn't driving make the most sense for this trip?

I suppose that he might not have access to transportation otherwise so perhaps this is the only way for them to get him there, but it makes it sound to me like maybe he really is flying to Dallas to see SMU.

And don't even get me started on the fact that he said he is flying "up" to SMU which is not normally the way people refer to going south. If someone lives in Dallas they say they are going down to Austin for the weekend.

the going "up" or "down" has always been a pet peeve of mine, but I've come to understand that not everyone has a) a sense of relational direction b) a grasp of a compass - N, S, W, E and c) basic US geography knowledge.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Why doesn't someone just email the writer of the article and ask him? I haven't been reading into this too much, but otherwise I would do it.

Before I looked up the travel info I tried unsuccesfully to find his email address on the site.

LOL...Stallion, considering the incredibly late start of JJ, and the fact that most of his tenure has been a dead period, how do you think he's doing?

This analysis is spot on -- Southwest flys from Jackson into Love Field, and Dallas is "up" from Jackson.

No way he (or anyone) would fly commercial on a Jackson to Hattiesburg roundtrip.
