keep an eye on Well's teammate Shane Turner too-both are considering Rice and Turner's considering all types of academic schools like Northwestern and BC. Blazing speed(one of the few guys that can make his opponents look like they are standing still), great moves, runs like he smells the endzone and at 5-9 he is best suited to playing in a Run and Shoot as an Inside Receiver. Actually played at HB in high school (averaged 8.0 ypc with about 1500 yards) but he had plenty of catches out of the backfield too-28 catches 12 ypc. Superlative on KO returns too averaging 34 ypko. If SMU has seen film on Wells they couldn't miss Turner either. There has been some discussion that both might end up at Rice but both I noticed they have visited Fresno St. together and were scheduled to visit Rice together on the 25th. Wells scheduled to visit SMU on the 27th-maybe he'll bring his buddy Turner along with him. Go check his Rivals highlites out-I'm telling you this is a Blue Chip Inside Receiver prospect and I guarantee you June Jones noticed that while watching Wells.

He can definitely fly. I will bet we are on him, if we are indeed on Wells.

last minute update-that could have an effect is that Rice WR Coach David Beatty resigned a couple of days ago to coach at Kansas.

good article on Shane Turner. Fresno St. may be leader with Turner over Rice. Apparently, he still wants to play RB in college. He could be an All-American at Inside Receiver in a June Jones offense and catch 100 passes a year. No real mention of Denzel Wells although they may well be a package deal.

apparently neither Wells or Turner commited to Rice during their visit according to a report on the Rice board.

Denzel Wells is at SMU on a Sunday/Monday visit right now I believe. Turner has never really expressed interest in SMU although they've visited several schools together.

Thanks, Stallion. Maybe he can spread the word to Turner so we can get him in later in the week.

How many Smurf type inside recievers does the R&S need to be run effectively? Seems like 3 a year would be plenty - but maybe I am wrong. Have we actually offered Wells? Nobody else but Rice really after him it looks like. What say you Stallion - is this the kind of guy we should be excitied about? I know it is late, but seems like there is enough mo to shoot a little higher.

That would be enough if all of them panned out to be productive D1 players. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. Developing a steady core of receivers is important. On offense, OL and WR recruits should be the priority, assuming you have a solid core of QB's and RB's, like we do currently.

A couple of these slots appear to be borderline D1 - thats why I was wondering if we are filling those spots too easily/quickly. There are a couple on the current roster that will fit the bill - correct?

he was offered by Fresno St. and Louisiana Tech as well as Rice and SMU. Hey that's probably better than most our recruits. Rivals doesn't have video on him. 5-9 or 5-10 is just fine for the Run and Shoot. Its some of the other kids with offers that I have more questionmarks about. I'm kinda intriqued about Quncey Whittington too.
