of course they can. coaches are allowed to make recruiting visits. now, there are certain times of the year that they are not allowed bc its a dead period, i'm not sure when those are.

JJ's tweet does not say #6. The poster who posted the link to his tweet added that.

This time of the year coaches can make visits to evaluate players but they are not allowed to speak with the players. Nick Saban got in trouble for doing speaking to players during the spring evaluation period two years ago.
The coaches are allows to talk to the HS coaches, counselors, etc. but not the recruit.

Yes, if the player is on a college campus for a visit (example is junior day) before the spring evaluation period they may talk to the coach but if the coach goes to the campus during the 3 week spring evaluation period he can't. Also, head coaches as of last year are not allow to visit high school during the spring evaluation period, only assistant coaches. The college may also divide up the 3 weeks into 1 week increments.

The recruits are allowed to call the coaches on the phone as much as the want, but the coaches can't make the initial in person contact. Mustang 22 is correct except for it is the spring evaluation period not the dead period.
Just found this article about UF recruiting:
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/gator_cl ... iting.html
Here is a note from the article:
(Note: Coaches are not allowed to recruit players during the evaluation period, only watch them in action and speak with coaches, teachers, school counselors, janitors, etc...)
Hope this helps.

The coaches are allowed to speak to a recruit if the player initiates contact. So most players are coached to go up and introduce themselves or say hi when a coach is on campus that way the coach can talk to them. This happens all the time. In fact Tressel was on a high school campus Friday and did this exact thing.
I know this is my first post so take it for what you will but a very good friend of mine is a coach at a high school here in Houston. He tells me about visits by coaches all the time and instructs his player to initiate the conversation. Coach Jones has even been on campus talking to this same kid.
Anyways, I’ve been reading ponyfans for years now and felt like I might finally have something to contribute.
