I dare you to find a coach who doesn't use some iteration of, " This is one of out best classes ever".

Considering the extent of your patience with Doh and the basketball program, I'm surprised you don't show the same patience for JJ and the football program. After all, it is JJ's team that is showing significant signs of progress, something that makes patience come easier to many of us. And, yes, I am aware that the SMU basketball job carried with it certain obstacles which necessitated a complete rebuild, but do you really want to compare those obstacles to the ones that faced all of the post-DP football coaches?

I have no patience for Doh or the basketball program, just know what it takes to rehab the head coaching position at SMU from a basketball industry perspective. While that's happening, I do what I can to defend the program, not only on these boards, but in grassroots circles, so that we have some balance when recruits show up. I'm macro about the program, and the losses hurt, but I get the big picture. It's not all about pulling the plug, no matter how sorry the results. Luckily, its finally put up or shut up time. As I've always said, show the next coach a big time payday, and it's on. Many of the issues that plagued us will have been put to rest.

I can easily compare the obstacles in hoops, over the years, with what our coaches have experienced post-DP in football. Easily. It's all part of the same AD. If you are gung-ho on the topic, let's take it PM, this being a recruiting thread etc. It's already been derailed enough
“When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.”- Jalen Jones

PonyGrad, you prove PonyDoh's point everytime you post.

You have an 8*10 glossy of our most prized recruit from last season, not a diamond in the rough.

PonyDoh's statement is dead on....Ultimately, there will always be diamonds in the rough, and there is a place for them in a class of 25 kids. They just shouldn't make up half the kids in said class.

Dear Webbie;
The coaches are doing a good job and I trust their projections. BTW, I was a skinny 262 when I graduated Lake Highlands.

With the two DT's in this class it sure would be nice to get a surprise JUCO NG this August.

BUS,

With a consistent training regimen, I bulked up to a (comparably) even scrawnier 215 my fresh year.

I once thought about benching 400, but that was pretty much a pipe dream. Never, ever, ever would I consider squatting 640. Imagine what this kid's stats will look like as a senior? He's already one of the elite powerlifters in the state as a junior. If you want somebody to plug up the middle, here's the BIG MAN you've been waiting for the Mustangs to sign all these years.

He is only 5' 11' now which may be why he doesn't have any other D1 offers, but no question this guy can play.

We run a 3-4 defense. He will be a nose tackle. His whole job is to hold up the middle. 6'2 and over guys will get their legs cut out from under them. His size is just fine. Sure, we want him to be an inch or two taller, but it's not needed. His strength makes this prospect exciting.

I bet the kid will grow at least another inch, maybe 2-inches taller between now and the time he shows up at SMU...he is, after all, just getting ready to start his senior year in high school. Kids do keep growing...usually. Some grow early and some grow late.

The picture is awesome. Can this guy be compared to the player from Terrel a few years back who was equally big although maybe not so tall who could dunk a basketball? I think his name was Kennedy and he went to NT where, by all I heard, he played well.

Nice frame and thickness. The height is a plus for me due to the fact that most D1 o-line are taller and it will be hard for them to het under his pads and move him out.

300 looks like a good weight for him if he gets to 6'1" ot 2.

Again, I trust these coaches.
