If that's the case, this is a "good get" - Scout.com reports offers from SMU, UNLV, Valpo, Virginia (!), Baylor and Rhode Island. Someone on a Virginia message board says he's gone from a 1-star to 3-star guy on rivals.

So does that mean that Katuka and Bennie Rhodes are no longer prospects or do we have another scholarship left. If so is it a first one to commit gets the last scholarship because it shows us to have offers to other people. Regardless Tomasz Kwihjeklhiohenogfoih will be a good pick up. Did I spell that right?

There's one scholarship left if Kwiatkowski really is signed, two if this is a pantload of gossip.

So our class was No. 25 in the country before adding a 3-star 7-footer.

How far does this guy boost that ranking?

Per the Dallas Morning News and Hoop Scoop. I don't know how hoop Scoop comes up with their rankings, and I don't care. It is great PR and great for future recruiting. Hope they are right!

SMU signs five for men's basketball
07:08 PM CST on Friday, November 10, 2006

SMU men's basketball coach Matt Doherty signed five players to national letters of intent, SMU announced Thursday. The class includes 6-0 G Mike Walker and 6-9 F Papa Dia, of South Ken (Conn.) School, and 6-4 Ryan Harp (Abilene Cooper), 6-8 F Robert Nyakundi (Arlington Bowie) and 6-8 G/F Alex Malone (Mansfield Timberview). The class is ranked No. 25 by Hoop Scoop.

The gem of the class may be Dia, who is a native of St. Louis, Senegal, the same hometown as SMU sophomore center Bamba Fall. Dia picked SMU over Louisville and Oklahoma.

Harp is ranked 14th, Malone 22nd and Nyakundi 76th in the state by TexasHoops.com

Those are individual rankings -- not class rankings!

It says "the class is ranked No. 25 by Hoop Scoop". Right or wrong it has been talked about at length by anyone who speaks about SMU. During the Memphis BB game the announcers mentioned the "top 25 class" several times.

You sure they were not saying down by 25 to Memphis?

They only said that once and then it moved on to 30 and then 40. (Actually it was during the game we played them close.)

I expect that Hoop Scoop (I assume) and others that rank classes by total, not average score, will move us up. We are aided by having so many 'ships this year. Even our "average star" rating will go up slightly. 8)

Now I get my time to put in my little dig. One recruit of this GREAT class is from the Metroplex and three total from Texas. There are great basketball players outside of Dallas. I'm glad our coach has a national perspective. If we turn the program around. Dallas players will start looking at SMU with a little more interest. Doh gets an A for getting whatever great players he could get from wherever he could find them. Now comes the interesting part, turning these guys into a time.
