that made me laugh.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Yeah, maybe Baylor and Briles have been banned from somewhere and Oklahoma State, and Arkansas. Go where doors have been opened.

I hated my h.s. coach, no way I would have listened to his recommendation to even buy a hamburger! Name a single college that hasn't done this? OK St. llast week and they haven't even had a coaching change.

Again, this has been grossly distorted.

Every committed recruit was told by the Athletic Department, once Bennett was let go, that neither the school nor the player was committed to the other.

This is no surprise.

And as to the timing of the ultimate callback, Owens may want to remember that June Jones only hit the ground last Tuesday, and then was quickly off to Houston.

By the way, when was the last time you saw a high school coach jump up on a soap box when one of his players changed his commitment?

(And, yes, it is true that Bennett repeatedly said that the biggest mistake he made when he came here was honoring Cavan's deathbed commitments.)
Apparently, there are some people pretty upset by this. One supposed father of a recruit that's been offered by SMU is reconsidering...

Posted on other board by win1free: "My son was offered by Coach Jones, but reading about this makes me wonder about the Coach, to put a kid out in the cold makes no sense!!!
SMU took its sweet time in getting a coach and asked the recruits to please hang in there and this is how this young man is rewarded."
Can't say I disagree with the way he feels. I know its part of the biz, but it does seem pretty cold to me. The biggest thing isn't about dealing with Lee anymore it's about dealing with the coach's friends. Most HS coaches are a tight group, and while I'm not saying other people are not going to let SMU on campus, they'll think twice about letting one of their kids commit if they have other offers.

I like Jones, but this wasn't the best PR move to make...especially if that scholarship goes unfilled.

The "parent" seems to be a little off in his assessment.

Maybe he came to town with the same PR Agency Jerry had when he fired Tom Landry?

If a high school kid has no chance in Jones eyes, it does not make any sense to waste a scholarship on him. Jones will recruit both Texas as well as nationwide hard. We need to use our scholarships wisely. We are not in a position to just give them away. It is a whole new ball game with both transfers and JUCO's in the mix. Let's not forget the cost of a scholarship. Both an allotted scholarship for 4 or 5 years as well as $150,000+ in cost. Every scholarship we give is a major decision by JJ. We need to trust him. If you are going to strive to bring a big time program back to the hilltop, there will be bumps along the road.

A good friend of mine who went to Tech said the consensus amongst his friends was that, though this may have been a little bit of a [deleted] move, it was a clear signal that SMU's not jacking around anymore...should have given him a 1/2 golf scholarship and let him walk on to the football team

A good friend of mine who went to Brookhaven said who cares - we are raising the bar.

This argument is getting us nowhere. It's done. It's over with. How about we start talking about the kids who are committing instead of arguing over 4 days over this baloney.
