Amen. Or Cal. Or UCLA. Now that we are entering the national football picture again, we are going to get a good amount of real bright kids like Shelmire who are looking for top 25 B schools and play at a good program. It's an elite group - UT, Mich, Cal, SC, BC etc.

Josh Shelmire easily sweeps the 100 Meters, 200 Meters and 400 Meters at a large (at least 21 schools) mostly private school track meet Saturday. He won all 3 events easily-late February times will come down later in season -probably poor weather also. Also his relay team placed 3rd in 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 Meter Relays. http://parser.dyestat.com/meetresults.j ... PTBEJ3nYqQ

Joshua Shelmire won the gold again in the 100 Meters at a major privates Houston meet last weekend which included 16 schools. I don't think he competed in 200 Meters or 400 Meters like last week: 100 Meters -1st Place -11.31 4 x 200 Meter Relay-!st Place 4 x 400 Meter Relay- 2nd Place Triple Jump-3rd Place -40' 5.75" While he's dominating the private schools he's going to have to bring that down into the 10s to be a Top 100 type time in Texas-but I have no idea about track conditions. Top time in Texas this early is 10.72 http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/M ... 27141#4685

Agreed - and the SCHOOL needs to do everything it can to get into that elite group. Starts with alumni giving. Any newly minted billionaires out there? (not me yet, but I'm working on it). "ojaipony named building on the SMU campus before I die".

Josh Shelmire's school qualified for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays which is a big step up in competition from his usual meets. High School Division 1 which looks like 3A and below and Privates. While his team finished 7th in the 4 x 100 Meters and 9th in the 4 x 200 Meters he was clocked in easily his best "splits" in both events for the year. (ie this is his time on his leg of the race only-but remember in relays you get running start rather than running out of the blocks) 100 Meter Split 10.30 (other splits on team 10.7, 11.0, 11.3) 200 Meter Split 21.40 (other splits on team 22.7, 22.8, 23.6) http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/A ... Come on now guys. He is probably like the #400 sprinter in TX for 100m. His 200 and 400 are more impressive. http://parser.dyestat.com/dselite.jsp?s ... mit=Submit

never said where he was ranked although I do try to provide perspective. I've been doing the same thing for decades for every recruit who was a track guy. I think he would probably perform much better at a more competitive level though because he usually wins at the level he competes at.

Right. Just realize you're not getting a reincarnated Aldrick Robinson.

You do realize he's only a Junior right?
He's has the 110th best time for all Juniors in Texas in the 100 Meters
He has the 42nd best time for all Juniors in Texas in the 200 Meters
He has the 21st best time for all Juniors in Texas in the 400 Meters
If he's truly 6-2 running those times then you got a pretty darn good WR prospect. Tall receivers when tested often report 4.4 but actually run 4.65. Its only those handful of NFL prospects that truly combine elite height and speed

Is he a tough football player who blocks and runs great routes and catches everything in sight or not? A tenth here or there on a track means little to nothing about his future success on the football field. He has plenty of size and speed, how does that transfer in pads on a football field? A little bit tougher to tell with him against his current level of competition.
Morris' ability to evaluate and hit home runs on these types of recruits will be the key to our future.

Joshua Shelmire easily beat his personal best by running a 22.17 in the 200 Meters in his TAPPS District Meet-but he finished second. For some reason he's not competing in 100 Meters lately but his team finished in 1st in both 4 x 200 Meter Relay and 4 x 400 Meter relay-he is the anchor leg. Shelmire now has the 72nd best time in Texas in the 200 Meters but he is all the way up to 28th best time among his Junior class. He has the 3rd best 200 Meters among all Private School Juniors in Texas. He also placed in Triple Jump at 3rd (40' 1.5") and Long Jump at 6th (19' 7.25") but those really aren't state competitive. Nevertheless he's a busy guy at the track with 6-7 events and was the MVP leading Lutheran South to Championship http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/A ... ID=6238226

He sounds like a great addition. I am excited about the future with this coaching staff bringing in this young man and others.

We SHOULD be able to easily beat out those two teams for guys in our own backyard. Easily. Consistently.
