Are you saying that assistant coaches are not doing what June has told them to do and he is not doing anything about it because he is loyal to them?
I would suspect that certain coaches were hired with the mutual understanding that there would be little if any expectations of them with regard to recruiting

Anyone else find it ironic that a bunch of gainfully employed folks in the middle of a work day are complaining about people not doing their jobs?
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand

If that is the case then why does anyone [deleted] about the assistant coach when they should [deleted] about the head coach who hired them with that understanding?

Yes, I have seen that you are consistent about addressing your complaints to the entire approach, which seems appropriate. Others focus their [deleted] on a subset of assistant coaches while seeming to give June a pass, which seems odd to me.

People are whining because the geeks at the pay sites haven't rated some of the guys yet, but somehow will feel much better when the ratings come out ... from people who don't go out and watch them play. If there is one staff in the last 25 years that has done to merit such criticism, it is this one. How quickly we forget where we have been.

Alaric wrote:The frightful conversation surrounding the last couple of commitments is similar to that around Kevin Pope, Keenan Holman, Taylor Reed, Sterling Moore...people looked at their poor offer lists and were freaked out. Yes it always bothers me when we offer "projects". Gotta admit a lot of the projects have fared better than many of our more highly recruited players the last few years. All of the guys I just listed have legit shots of playing in the NFL. Might be a waste of energy to panic right now...
Don't forget the lack of offers to those "projects" Kyle Padron and Zach Line. If memory serves, Padron had none when SMU offered him, and now has several SMU passing records with two years left to improve as he arrived with only a half a dozen career starts in his high school career. Line had what, one other offer at the time? Two? And he initially was going to be a linebacker? No staff bats 1.000 in recruiting, but it's clear this staff can identify talent better than any we have had in decades, and is doing a good job reeling it in. It won't happen overnight, but the talent level is going up pretty quickly around the Hilltop.

This program is just on the verge of becoming special, but to get there we got to have then entire staff aggressively pursuing the best players of the country. Texas is will continue to be tough for us if we don't change how SMU is perceived, starting with our own recruiters. Klemm is not afraid to offer a Texas 4-star, the rest seem to be looking for the "easy" sell and afraid to mix it up. As hard as Texas is worked by every major program in the country, it is difficult for me to believe that there are many "diamonds in the rough" that other school haven't discovered.
Texas HS coaches have more negative memories to erase than coaches in other states. Keep winning more and more games, and those memories will be erased. If Texas is "tough," get the best players elsewhere. When they win, more top players - including those in Texas - will want to play with them. Some better HS players are committing to SMU now. Getting the top Texas players won't happen every night, but the more the Ponies win, the more players will consider SMU.

Flip side of the coin, if there is one staff in the last 25 years that deserves such scrutiny, it is this one.

Are you related to Coach Klemm or something? mrydel wrote:Anyone else find it ironic that a bunch of gainfully employed folks in the middle of a work day are complaining about people not doing their jobs?
HA! Well said, mrydel! This witch hunt on our own coaches is nothing short of embarrassing.

Having Nick crush the staff fells pretty real to me. He's quick to defend the program, if he thinks it's worth defending. His killing our recruiting efforts, makes me think there is a problem in recruiting. Sorta like when i say I'm qvery concerned about our hoops recruiting, and that signing date is rolling up quickly, with the only Klemm on staff being doh himself

At the end of the day, it's the results that matter. Early returns are very, very promising.

In the end, you only get results by grabbing elite kids. Coaching them up, really isn't viable at this level. I don't know the quality of kids we're bringing in, but based on threads like this, I'd say your 'early returns' comment, seems premature. Hopefully, someone picks it up on the trail, in both revenues
