Yes, you can't focus your binoculars on just Texas if you're trying to understand what SMU is doing right now. For instance, we have eighteen offers out to Rivals four star recruits right now. Seventeen of those eighteen are from out of state.

I am ok with Stallion's horseshoes and handgrenades assertion that you only count commits. And in that analysis, we are not doing well compared to our competition -- no matter where the recruits are from. But, clearly, it is early. And I like that we're going after top talent and getting guys to walk on who might have been offered scholarships in the past. Thanks to Stallion for pointing out the preferred walkon QB.

That's the bottom line. The man has an elite salary, amazing location and improving facilities. I appreciate the progress, but last year was not a step forward despite the CUSA champ game. Basically, this program has to be rebuilt the right way to assure longevity. Its a little early for naysayers, but this team best have 8 wins this year, or we're just bleeding money to beat no one of worth.

I have an incredible stomach for rebuilds, but this isn't SMU hoops that was crippled by reputation and actions. If June isn't recruiting Texas, and is below 500 at SMU, heading into his 5th year, that's worth a discussion.

Its not the W/L column for me....Its a whole bunch of things...

If we win 8 I will be super happy but still worried about the program as a whole...

With ineligibles I see another 7-5 season...But I still think 8-4 9-3 is doable if Padron steps up...

Agree with hoopman, Nick, and RGV. To be fair, the concern isn't looking at this year. Yes, we are still early in "this year." The concern is that it's year four, and 42 months in to the regime. That's the context it's being brought up in.

I have been to or seen nearly every SMU game since June's arrival. Year 1 was a major disappointment. Year 2, the team barely hung on to get to 7 wins. Then the Hawaii bowl comes around and the team dominated a good Nevada team that was missing a number of key players. The bar was set way too high after that game.

Last year was not what I would have liked, but the team improved. The team has improved each year. As the saying goes: crawl, walk, and then run. We should be running this year. And if we are not, every criticism of this staff will be understandable. I too may jump on the bandwagon.

Who's "we"? SMU isn't paying the salary...the magnitude of his salary doesn't drain cash from SMU, it's paid by the Circle of Champions.

No, it would be draining a significant amount of money from a small, very generous group of SMU alums/supports who don't have an infinite amount of finances to donate toward SMU's athletic goals.

However, the Athletic Director invested that money in a single employee, his employee, so by extension the University is 'bleeding money' on its investment. It's just not coming directly from University coffers.

I dunno. I felt like the Armed Forces Bowl was a huge step backward. We were clearly not prepared or ready to play in my opinion. That shouldn't happen. Get beat by a better team, I completely understand. Army wasn't better than us.

Look, coming up with ideas on how to continue to improve is commendable. But the tone of some of these posts seems to be to come from the tired, old, typical spoiled, thankless, amnesic types. What have you done for me the last five minutes?

Truth is it's amazing what June Jones has done here and the money is one tenth of what we should have paid to get out of the cesspool that has been SMU football since the Reagan administration. Un freaking believable. Maybe we really are the popped collar stinking brats we're lampooned as. Can I get anyone another tanq and tonic?

Flip side of the same coin. Success and scrutiny. Both have a place in this discussion.

We're not "bleeding money" on this. June Jones singlehandedly saved SMU football from extinction and brought us back to respectability. Applications to come to SMU are at an all time high. Two bowl games in a row. He had a great recruiting class last year and may be on his way to another this year. I'd say he's been a freaking bargain.
