Ranked #94 Class on 12-02Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02I would debate that. Strike the word "prominent" and I would agree. More like a junior version of Oakland, California.

That's actually a great comparison ![]() BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02The Ft. Worth v Dallas love is nothing compared with Houston. Larger population, full of oil money, huge port, larger than Dallas in most categories...and has a ridiculous inferiority complex regarding Dallas. They know they produce mediocrity...yet they can't even embrace that!
Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02
Not sure where you're going with that, but as this is in the "recruiting" forum, it should be noted that the GHA has produced more NFL talent that DFW in recent years. As far as prospective college environments, I'd choose Dallas hands-down (having lived in both metro areas), but in keeping with full-disclosure, I am an SMU alum so I'm a bit biased.
Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02DFW has substantially more Division 1A prospects than Greater Houston every year
last Year it was DFW:156 GHA: 110 Page 14 Texas Football its especially noticeable if you compare say DMN Area 100 with Chronicle Area Top 100-DFW is much deeper. If DFW had been a State it would have ranked 5th among all states in US "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02
I agree that top to bottom, DFW has better HS players (on average) and more competitive programs. My point was that it is disingenuous to conclude that Houston is 'inferior' to Dallas when it comes to producing top tier (NFL caliber) talent. A 2010 study along with 2013 and 2014 NFL player census records bear this out. I would also be interested in what Scout & Rivals consider "DFW" and "GHA"; this year the Spring schools were in one of the DFW regions (Region II) - even though they are thoroughly Houston area schools. IIRC, "DFW" UIL regions include Longview & Tyler to the east and Midland/Odessa & Abilene to the west. Last edited by SMUrf on Wed Jan 28, 2015 11:57 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02My bad...I was just mocking Houston. Didn't realize I needed a reason and a permission slip to do that.
And...this is a recruiting forum, for a college. Pretty sure we recruit HS players.
Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-0222 commits on Rivals right now, Crockett probably won't be a part of this class, so I'm thinking 21 and if we can backcount Hicks as an EE to 2014 then we could conceivably take 26 and have five spots left.
Contenders for those final spots, as of now: 3* DB Jaylon Lane 3* DT Bryce English 3* DT Ross Donnelly 3* DT Zach Abercrumbia 2* OT Bryce Wilds NR RB Xavier Jones Should be fun to see how it all shakes out...this class is shaping up even better than I expected for 2015. A much needed infusion of talent on this roster and I bet we won't see too many redshirts next season because of the talent gap on the current roster. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient

The fact that we're even in the top 75 much less the top 70 in ANY ranking system after what we were looking at less than two months ago is absolutely unreal. ![]()
Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02A good article on the difference in recruiting since coach Morris took over.

I like it! ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02This says it all.....
"Castille chose SMU over his two other finalists, Oklahoma State and Washington, Power Five programs that offer more exposure and a higher-level of competition. You could waste your time searching for a story like these from the June Jones era, but you will not find one. In the past, players chose SMU because they had nowhere else to go or chose the Ponies over offers from lower-level schools, which seemed to be the way the Jones staff viewed SMU." This is so true. He always acted like we were small-time and had no chance at being more. Dallas Mavericks - 2011 NBA CHAMPIONS!

Re: Ranked #94 Class on 12-02Acted small time because he believed we were small time. He called us a have not. And we were small time and a have not because June believed it and made it a self fulfilling prophecy.
