Rowlett OL Josh Hickman committed to SMU after attending the Tech game. He is a good one.

Got any more info on him? Size? Quickness? Pancake blocks or sacks allowed (hopefully none)? Strength tests?
Thanks

That's 3 OLs -- somewhere, BUS is popping some champagne and chomping on a big, fat cigar.

Hickman is from Rowlett, 6-2, 277, 5.34, 13 Bench Reps, 18 vertical, 4.63 Shuttle all should be accurate based on Nike College Station camp. No. 100 Player on the DMN All-Area Team. I couldn't access the Rivals comparison chart from that Nike camp to give you a better comparative analysis but he is generally the same size as Enright so I will try to pull up my report about Enright for comparison. He had interest in Ark, BU, Iowa, A&M, Tech and TCU and camped at UT, TCU, and A&M. He reported on Rivals about 3 weeks ago he hadn't heard anything back from those schools since the camps-BUT I was under the impression that the dead or quit period just ended August 31st so I'm not sure they could contact him. No other reported offers. Reported 30 pancake blocks and did not allow any sacks while earning his Team MVP honor as a Junior. In Texas FB he is listed as 6-4, 280, 5.3. Saw one report where he threw a Discus 130" 7 '

just to give you some measure to compare, Enright( a recruit with comparable size) at the same Nike camp ran a 5.16(8th out of 35 OLM), Bench Reps 25(7th), Vertical 24.1(6th), Shuttle 4.59 (3rd). It would appear Hickman's Shuttle time rated very high.

I LOVE THE START OF THIS RECRUITING CLASS. Big Men and early commits. Yes, we pulled Chris Halls ship... Speak up Chris before we don't have any left!!!! Look at the guys you could work with... Are you willing to work that hard???

What a great group of OL.

Now, we need a top-shelf QB for the '05 class. And IF the TX HS QB's still shun us, let's hope the coaches go outside the state to find one. ANY HS QB would be impressed with what is being built on the SMU frontline!

Jerry Bennett is now recruiting north Louisiana, too. I have no idea what kind of QBs are over there, but at least it's a larger pool of candidates. I agree with the theory that we should sign at least one every year.

Now that they're recruiting n. Louisiana, and with the conf. changes, it might be helpful to schedule out of con. games in the future say in Shreveport vs. La Tech or now and then ULM...by then, hopefully they'll be "automatic" or near-auto. wins, and give some exposure & chance for the kids to play close to home.

Hopefully Jerry Bennett makes friends w/ former LSU qb Josh Booty's dad, the head man at Evangel.

Hickman's commitment is now acknowledged by Rivals after I e:mailed them about it. They also are showing Alexander on SMU's list. They had reported the commitment, but weren't showing it until I e:mailed them.

For what it's worth, the DMN listed Hickman at 6-3, 285. Let's hope he keeps growing!
