the FSN also televised a high school football game between Midland Lee and Odessa Permian. Midland Lee has a QB named James "the Real" McCoy who looks like a real prospects at several positions. I'm not even sure if he is a Senior. I didn't watch much of the game but I can't believe the recruiting services have missed this guy in a year when there are just a handful of decent QB prospects. He looked outstanding to me in the limited time I watched. Texas Football says he is 6-3, 195 4.4 which probably would cause some school to offer just on potential alone -if true. He has already played WR, DB, and QB at Lee. Last year as a WR he caught 19 passes for a whopping 478 yards-25 yards per catch. I'm sure he's no secret to coaches anymore but he would seem to be a great prospect for SMU at several positions. Any West Texans heard more about this kid?

What do you mean by James "the Real" McCoy? Were the commentators referring to him by that name, or what? I’m asking because I was wondering if they were trying to bag on Colt McCoy. I'm from the Big Country area, and I have never heard of him. The only McCoy mentioned around here is “the real†McCoy, and his name is Colt McCoy and he is from Jim Ned High School.

uhmm Jim Ned, when was the last time the Indians had a division 1 recruit? And also I wouldn't call Midland/Odessa part of the big Country, even if the schools are in the reminants of the little SWC along with cooper and abilene high.

generally West Texas is a vast wasteland of generally overrated recruiting territory. Texas Football has posted the numbers for each region for years and generally West Texas has no more than 10-15 Division 1A players. The Rivals Database may have left a few out but for example in 2004 Midland had 1 signee who went to NMSU, Odessa had 1 signee who went to New Mexico, San Angelo had 2 signees to TCU and New Mexico, and Lubbock had one who went to NMSU. They have great High School football in West Texas just precious few talented recruits.

I told you he was impressive-apparently Aggie coaches invited him down after his National TV performance and offered immediately. The committment was reported today-. Its very rare for the Aggies or UT to offer someone who is not even on the Rivals or Insiders chart-but he looks like a great athlete-ala Ramon Flanigan. Guess I'll start my own recruiting service-couldn't be worse than Max Emfinger.

Man the McCoy's are making a lot of news today. Colt McCoy who has been committed to UT since May is grumbling about the UT offense and looks pretty determined to check some other schools out. Don't know if I would have taken that public if I were him. UT will likely jerk his offer since I believe that have a "no other visits" policy for committed players. Also, you don't see a lot a 2A QBs no matter how impressive get an offer from a Top 10 team. I remember some top RBs make the jump but I'm having trouble remembering any QBs-I'm sure there are some.

You think that's bad? What did you make of the other QB commit for UT (Perriloux, or something -- from Louisiana) who's supposed to be a great player, etc.
First he comes out and says Vince Young can't make all the throws he can. That may or may not be true, but as a HS senior, do you really want to come out and say that about a guy on the team you're going to?
Then he says that if UT offensive coordinator Greg Davis leaves, he'll "consider other options" and said that Davis is the main reason he committed. That's fine -- a lot of players commit because of a particular coach or coordinator or system. But this guy's not even acting as if he's going to go to UT to get an education or anything. If he sees college as nothing more than a stepping stone to the NFL, that's his perspective -- lots of guys think that. But he said the other day that Davis needs to be kept around "until I get there and show them what I can do."
Kind of jumping the gun a little there, Junior, don't you think?
For all the heat Mack Brown takes about being "all recruiting, no coaching," I think he'd get a ton of respect from his team if he pulled this kid's offer, telling his team no recruit is bigger than the team.

Another reason he might be complaining is that Texas has a commitment from Ryan Periloux (sp?), the top rated QB in the nation. I know we don't ge a lot of recruits that fall into the "UT-recruit" range, but if they do part ways we need to try and jump all over this. If the offense is the reason he's upset, we can at least try to sell him on ours. Just a chance. I wonder if we're even pursuig a QB, considering guys like the two McCoys, the kid from Southlake, and Casey [deleted] all comitted without a wimper from us.
