New info on QB's

Baylor, indeed, offered Eric Johnson and as soon as they found out Johnson commited to SMU....they immediatley went and offered the Witchita Falls Rider QB.

Also, have it from another source close to Eric that the phone is still ringing off the hook.

Great "get" coaches and Eric, if you read this board...welcome aboard the SMU Mustang train. You'll have the time and ride of your life at SMU!!!

uh, you know Stallion. I do not recall Eric Johnson having a quote in the DMN. If so, what exactly did he say?

DMN (story released 15 hours ago according to my computer) obviously contacted him on his commitment and quotes 4 sentences commenting on his commitment and also states Johnson, who also received a scholarship offer from New Mexico St. You'd think they would confirm and update offers info in a commitment story.

well...well. Guess what. As luck would have it, I went into the Spirit Shop this afternoon. Who is standing in line to check out but Eric Johnson himself. Standing right there in living color!

Eric stated, indeed, he was offered by Baylor, New Mexico St. and Tulane (last Friday night). He is very excited to be a Mustang and knows SMU is a great place for him. He says he really likes Coach Bennett and Coach Roark.

He is planning on redshirting next year, taking the time to get stronger and learn the system.

A beautiful SMU Spirit Shop coed helped Eric with his purchase as he politely checked out (using his Dad's credit card). Was in a hurry and left to go play Halo II. Life just does not get much better than that of an 18 year old.

Eric is a nice young man. It is good to have you on board the SMU train, Eric!!

Man this guy is incredible-he gets no Division 1A offers in 7 months of recruiting(oops except for NMSU) then he gets offered by SMU Friday Nite, Baylor on Saturday, Utah on Sunday and Tulane on Sunday). I hope USC, UT, OU and Notre Dame don't hear about this. I haven't seen a recruiting story like this since the great Dontas Raskauskas and/or Bamba Falls.

So coaches can't spend the season analyzing a guy before making an offer? There are a lot of guys this happens with. Look, we all accept the fact that you read a lot of recruiting stuff. But don't discount someone's opinion as inaccurate just because you didn't read it first.

How is this guy any less of a recruit than the Szymanski kid and the Luke kid you pointed out? They don't have any more impressive suitors either, according to your own posts. Seems to me the only difference is who started the thread.

I never suggested taking any of them-I 'm just passing along info. The fact is there is about 3 QBs in Texas this year of a quality that you usually see in the Top 10 in Texas. The rest are all question marks. All are generally short, some are slow, some have questionable passing credentials, some come from smaller classifications. The consensus is that this is probably the leanest year for QBs in Texas in memory.

Oh well, my mistake then. Although it's an understandable one since you started the thread on Szymanski and entitled it "Why Aren't We Recruiting this Kid?"

Does the fact that he got these 'more' major offers increase his perceived Rival points (is he rated yet)?

he's rated 2 stars 5.3 and that's probably where he's going to stay at 6-1 and running a 4.78 forty. But Rivals raised the ratings of at least 3 SMU recruits in the 2003 recruiting class from 2 star to 3 star based upon various factors such as senior performance and recruiting interest. Despite the claims of the ignorant it is not only UT recruits who get "bumped up". SMU has been a prime beneficiary of the "bump up" in recent years.
