Will this be Bennett's Best Recruiting Year??

Whatever you might say about Bennett, you can't knock his recruiting ability. Even at a school like SMU where recruiting is TOUGH, he continues to surpass expectations.

The rumor mill is churning... And some of the new names being tossed around are pretty impressive. Some Big Name JUCOs and some high profile local kids. If even a handful of these guys commit, it'll be Bennett's best year to date. I hear we're close and should hear more in the next couple of weeks.

This is all well-corroborated hearsay. Anybody know anything a bit more definitive???

Who are some of these names? The “big news” tease is becoming very popular and frustrating on PF.com these days.
We’ve got a big announcement, great news coming......
We’ve got a few really impressive guys considering us........
This IS a fan “rumor” board. Tell us. If doesn’t pan out, so be it. The 50 or so of us that visit this board on a regular basis need every reason possible to stay optimistic about the state of our athletic programs. Holding back anything good is just mean. Give it up.

And sorry, Peruna, nothing personal against you, it’s just that I went to lunch today with a couple of my UT friends and let’s just say that I heard a lot about the Rose Bowl this and the BCS that. All I had to come back with was.....well, we’ve got some potentially good news coming today....about something?? And at least we scored more than 29 against Okie St. Geez........Go Michigan!

Let's not get ahead of ourselves...we were supposed to get a surpise in his second class, and it didn't happen.

That being said, this is the 4th class and the 'contacts' in the community, HS use of Ford, etc...should pay dividends...

Third-and-a-half (?) class -- some of that first class was filled with Cavan recruits -- but you're right about high schools playing in Ford, the coaches' relationships with HS coaches, etc. We all want it to happen NOW (I know I do), but progress clearly is being made.

I do believe that we DID get the surprise from last years class. The BIG Motoun kid that showed up from JC for the start of classes.

Wow, Jeff Brock, the TE/DE who committed last night wasn't even on my radar screen.

I heard about some (as in more than one) BIG (as in REALLY large) news on the offensive side of the ball, which should make both Stallion and BUS absolutely giddy. There's about 5 hints in that last sentance.

More news coming. It's big. Possibly controversial. Will light up the football forum for weeks. You'll know it when you see it.

On another subject, although I know that we really wanted to recruit Henry Melton, I talked to someone who knows him and it sounds like he probably would not have made a good fit at SMU. It'll be interesting to see if we ever hear a peep out of him down at UT.

The "big' suprise last year was in FEB, that didn't happen. Mouton was a summer/fall surprise....but I get your point.

Alls Ima saying is, I hope all the surprises fall, but lets' dont' start declaring them just yet...

Let me guess, Chris Hall is decommitting from OSU and coming to SMU?

Chris Hall can't be the scoop, because as someone with inside information said 'we pulled his scholarship so he had no choice but to commit to OSU.' Or something to that effect.

No, No folks, you got it all wrong.

I believe the Adrian Peterson is getting tired of all the media hipe and public attention and is going to transfer from OU to SMU.

Big news huh? My wild [deleted] guess is Lou Holtz loves Dallas and wants to coach true student athletes in his swan song. Bennett would be his associate head coach and D Coordinator. Hows that for insane speculation?

Screw Holtz, why not Willingham?

I'd sure like to see some TRANSFERS, and some JUCOs, and some TOP HS recruits...because, let's just say, if we sign a TOP25 class, so what?

I mean, that's great, but we will be back into starting FR over our JRs again?

There is a perilous inflection point between starting your better/younger/weaker talent which is prone to more mistakes vs. your more experienced/stonger/lesser talented older folks - less mistakes.

An 18 year old is NOT 21...there is a huge difference.

I'd like to see some signings that complement our JR class over the next 2 years (the #1 non-BCS class, ranked as high as #42) for the next two years AND a TOP25 HS class.

Having said that...last year I pointed out the SIZE of our team, large to small, and I think 15 of the 18 largest guys were FR, RS-FR.

Go BUS go!

Ponymon,

The news I alluded to is a lot bigger than Chris Hall. If it comes to pass, you'll see what I mean.

The recruiting machine is starting to fire up. Sean Carney was on the radar screen, but not specifically what I was talking about.

The other part of my news is what (I believe) Stampede referred to on the Football board.
