a "little birdie" from Ponyfans.com told me about this prospect several weeks ago and he is now showing interest in SMU according to Rivals. The intriquing thing about this recruit is that he is in the Top 10 of all Rivals tested athletes nationwide( out of 3,580 athletes tested) in the SPARQ test - I think referring to Speed, Power, Agility, Reflex and Quickness. Its a composite score from all the Rivals tests including his 4.59 forty, Bench 33 reps., 32 Vertical Jump, Shuttle 4.28. He's been offered by MAC schools NIU(visit), Central Michigan, Ball St and getting interest from Vandy and now SMU. He camped at several Big 10 camps and has received interest from some other larger schools. He is originally from the Plano/Dallas area but now lives in Illinois.

Top 10 NATIONWIDE? Wow.

With the way tight ends are being used these days, you can't have too many guys with that kind of ability. Should be entertaining to line up Kennedy, Chase, Brock and this guy in a 4-TE set, and watch opposing defensive coordinators go into convulsions.

BTW the report on this recruit I don't think is availiable yet systemwide unless you go to EdgyTim.com which is the Illinois High School site for Rivals. The local originator of the story usually gets the first crack at publishing the story before it goes systemwide. Videos also availiable.

General question: when they talk about somebody's "33 reps" in the bench press, how much weight is that 33 reps of? Just curious.

225 pounds, I think.

The numbers sure sound impressive. Wonder why he's not being targeted by some more big programs?

there is a whole website set up for SPARQ training by NIKE-on the website it says 185 pounds.

No, it's only 185.

Of course, 33 reps of 185 would wear out just about anyone.

Aw, come on Punch - you could put that up a few hundred times in your sleep, right?

Insiders says we've offered him, and that he's coming on a visit the weekend of Jan. 7.

Go get him, coaches!

Let's build a pipeline to Illinois (yes!). I also suggest replacing TCU on Northwestern's schedule. Evanston is a great place to watch a game, while recruiting the Midwest. Lots of big uglies. Football players, not coeds.

PonyFan,

Actually, after reading that report I went to the gym at lunch and tried to get an idea of what my SPARQ score would be.

Well, let me just say that I did considerably less than 33 reps of 185... Dangit!

Try what I did. 185 reps with 33 Lbs. I got closer to finishing.

I think the standard bench press measurements are:

Reps x 185 lbs. for high school athletes.
Reps x 225 lbs. for college and professional athletes.
