While at the Newark airport I read the Sunday High School sports section and for the above headline.
this is a guy from St. Marks. The Star-Ledger said that he had offers from Vandy, Southern Methodist, Utah and Texas.
He is listed as 6-5 snf 225. Caught 28 passes for 518 years or 19 per catch. He also ran back two kickoffs and had two interceptions as saftey.
Hs sid he went to this chool to grow up. Last year he veballed to Texas before choosing to pass and go this prep school.
Come on to SMU.

yet another prep school recruit-see this is an emerging trend-of course Thorton is the son of former Dallas Cowboy Bruce Thorton and the brother of Kalen Thorton I believe who presently plays for them. The kid's name is Kenton Thorton and he was a Top Recruit last year-I believe a 3 star. He presently is at Blair Academy. BTW Blair ran the wishbone this year and 9 of Thornton's 10 TDs were for 27 yards or more. At a school like St Mark's it is possible he got a low grade in a core class because of the competitiveness of the students and -as was said earlier - he needed to wipe that grade off in Prep School. All graduates of St. Marks could easily handle to curriculm at SMU so there would be very little academic risk in signing this type kid.

The problem is that he wants to play basketball... at UT...

True, but UT hoops coach Rick Barnes isn't recruiting him. He also had his heart set for a while on Stanford. Word is he's now open to playing football again, rather than basketball. The knock on him at St. Mark's was that he was so much more physically gifted than those he played against that he didn't seem to play hard all the time. I saw him in 10th grade, and he was as dominant as any player I'd seen in ages -- including his brother Kalen. (FYI: his other brother, Kyle, is an OL at Texas now.)

His name was brought up many times last year and it always seemed that he had no interest in coming here. He got a late scholarship from UT for football, but wanted to either play both football or basketball and that wasn't going to happen at UT. I heard also that they might move him to TE.
Would be nice to have him, but he never seemed too interested last year.

well we seem to be jumping all over several 2A kids which I have concerns about too-St Mark's could likely handle most 2A teams easily. This is a no-brainer if he wants to come here.

Definite no-brainer.
What 2A kids are we after, aside from Jeff Brock and Moton Hopkins?

Man, what I wouldn't give to see this guy at SMU. I'd love to call Reynaldo Pellerin "the little guy" in a 3-WR set with Thornton and Bobby Chase!

Yeah, what's up with this? A huge WR like this would be .... huge.
Is there really a chance? I always thought he was a longshot, at best.
Man, I hope you know something we don't - I'd love to see this guy as a Mustang!

Could this be a situation where we'd let him play football and basketball? This would be a nice pickup.

If we did, it would have to be on a football scholarship, right? Because of some NCAA rule put in place because Bear Bryant had a bunch of 300 lb linemen with swimming scholarships (at least that was the joke).
