J.D WaltonI sure was disappointed to see this "target" commit elsewhere. It seems we are not getting verbals from alot on our wish list. I guess the contract extension is not have the desired effect. Was this guy a longshot?
Where did he commit?
I'd heard that while he's a very good player, who presumably could play (and perhaps soon), the romance between us and Walton had waned a little. Sure, we still would have taken him, I assume, but I gather that the announcements of various commitments means the coaching staff had re-shuffled its priority list. Good luck to Walton, I suppose (unless he's headed to Fort Worth, or to anther school on our schedule). I'm sure he'll do well elsewhere.
See, now why is it necessary to write it like that? By the mere fact that he chose ASU, Colorado State, Iowa State and Utah "didn't mak the cut," either. I sometimes agree with your complaints of uber-sunshine, but there's also som merit to the suggestion that you often take the negative perspective with apparent eagerness.
Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
because it wasn't accurately reported above. SMU offered and didn't lose interest in him-and he chose to go elsewhere. He reported several days ago that Arizona St. Iowa St. and Colorado St. were his finalists. I post every bit of information both positive and negative I can find on a recruit. Deal with it. The real B.S being told on this board are the ones claiming we "backed off" every highly recruited player we OFFERED.
Lighten up, Francis. Nobody said we backed off to the extent that his offer was pulled. All that was said was that perhaps he wasn't our top priority anymore. To suggest that wasn't the case is as reckless as the suggestion that we no longer wanted him, since none of us is in the coaches' meetings on recruiting. You spend enough time reading about this stuff to know that sometimes teams offer a guy and then decide later that other players are more appealing. A recent report here said that we had offered K.J. Ellis, but then he was told that we'd filled his position. He sure sounded like he was still interested, but there no longer was a space for him. I'm sure he's a good player, and he might well excel elsewhere. But the commitments of other players (Todd Alexander, Clayton Cox, etc.) made Ellis slip down the priority list. Maybe this Walton guy had narrowed his choices to a shorter list that excluded SMU. If that's what you've read, I'll accept that for the time being. But unless the sign on your office door has "SMU assistant coach" under your name, then you don't know any more than we do about whether he lost interest in him, he lost interest in us, or both. I suspect it's some combination of both. Assuming that someone else on the board knows more or less than you do is simply guesswork. What I am sure of is that I'm very excited about Mitch Enright, David Allison and Josh Hickman, as well as the non-offensive linemen.
Re:
If you're going tell the 'truth', then be factual, Stallion: Colo State, Iowa State & Utah didn't make the cut, either. YOU WANT THE TRUTH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
