According to Rivals, Justin will visit SMU this weekend and then make his decision. It is down to SMU and Tulsa. He visited Tulsa last weekend and really liked it. We will see how good our salesmen are this weekend compared to Tulsa. For some reason we have lost a lot of recruiting battles to Tulsa. Hope we can win this one! Lots of luck coaches!

well I'm just glad his coach claims he has run a timed 40 in 4.6 or better. At the Nike Camp he ran a horrible 4.87 which would scare off most recruiters. I thought it had to be faster since he had so many rushing yards.

Is that the same Nike camp that you lauded some kids for their speed in horrible (rain) running conditions?

the conditions apparently affected only some of the events. It doesn't appear it affected the QB forty time because there were numerous times under 4.5. But every time I report times from that camp I post the total number of recruits participanting and the recruit's place in order to give some context. Willis ran a 4.87 placing him 27th out of 40 QBs. I don't believe anyone below him got a Division 1A scholarship. BTW Eric Johnson ran a 4.78 forty placing 17th out of 40 QBs. I believe 2 maybe 3 QBs below him with get Division 1A scholarships.

Try driving the young lad down sorority row. That is what I call the "Closer". If he still wants to go to Tulsa then let him.

Personally, I think the kid will lean toward Tulsa.
But... What about the qb from WF Rider (Syzmanski, sp.)? He's big, threw for a couple of miles & is also looking at Tulsa.
And, what's the deal about Tulsa?
The city is a dump-- unles you want to be an O/G Geologist or something.

Symanski now has offers from Tech, Houston, Baylor and TCU among others and is getting a look from Cal.

Aren't there some solid 1A or 2A players that we could go after? Surely one can win on a regular basis with a team full of "diamonds in the rough".

What a great PonyFan you are. If you're lucky, you can convince recruits reading this board not to come, and convince other PonyFans to completely abandon the Ponies.

According to Stallion, SMU's class is almost full of "80 karat" diamonds. BTW, Willis is a Rivals 3 star. Come on to SMU, Justin. You'll be making a winning decision.
I am waiting to see the results of Stallion's "project" on the non-BCS schools and what % have BCS offers.

why don't you get off your [deleted] and do it yourself. I can tell you that 2/3rds of the commitments from TCU and Tulane meet the standard I stated.

I hope you take the assignment... but take JC's out of the mix. They are really not rated by Rivals. IMHO, most non-BCS schools DO NOT make the 2/3 status you established.
Should you decide not to accept the assignment....this thread will dissolve in three days.

Stampede, I too am looking forward to Stallion's report being the expert that he is on recruiting. I heard that he is leading the discussion at the Signing Day event at the Mercury. I hope he does as he knows more than our coaches do. If Rivals says it, it IS true, right Stallion?

I thought the point was to build a team capable of winning championships and bowl games especially with Bennett in his 4th year of recruiting. That's how I rate a recruiting class-has SMU recruited a team that is capable of meeting those goals. If your satisfied with competing with the average non-BCS team then I guess SMU's freshman class is just AWESOME just like Ponyboy, Stampede and the rest of the cheerleaders have boasted about every single signing date for 15 years. My initial post was in response to Ponyboys idiotic post which called SMU's recruiting class a RESOUNDING SUCCESS. When I hear that crap it makes me want to puke. Go ahead and have your fun about recruiting services and 60-70 coaching staffs recruiting Texas not knowing a thing about what they are talking about. Just remember that they have predicted the abysmal state of SMU football now for 15 years. If 2/3rds of your class don't receive a quality Division 1A offer then you are reaching because you've been turned down by the kids you really wanted-and that is exactly what has happened this year with SMU's freshman class.

Look, nobody here wants to win more than I do. I am so tired of the last 15 years of not winning I could puke too. However, I do believe that this staff can judge talent and they have added a bunch of speed during the time they have been here. At this point, we are not going to beat Texas, A&M and OU on players but we have and will beat other D1 schools on our recruits. Evidence of their ability to judge talent is NOBODY was on this Iglesias kid from Killeen other than us for a long time. OU got film on him and offered him, and they will likely get him. These guys work extremely hard to find size and speed that are off the beaten path. If you really think Rivals talks to every kid that shows up on their board, you ARE living in a dream world. This year, our class will have size and speed and likely not many of these guys but the JC's will see the field next year. I know the coaches have told me that EACH class should be evaluated a couple of years from now, which I think the coaches at EVERY school in America would say that. If all anyone reads is Rivals, then we aren't doing so well. TRUST ME, we are in on some kids that have not hit any boards or chat pages yet that, should we get them, even you will be happy. And no, I am not going to post on here who they are.
