SMU is full of recruits and at this late date Baylor and Tulane are still adding some players.

It is the word Dominate that I wonder about. Did Baylor dominate us the last time we played? NO. We gave the game away.

Do I think Tulane will dominate us when we play - Oh, I hope not.

I guess I am sunshine. I see things at not close to perfect but at least better than the past coaching regime. This staff studies, prepares and gets kids Blue sheeted months in advance. For the first time SMU has not a ship to offer.

Why the word Dominate. Not picking a fight just a question.

gee I thought I had expressed myself pretty clearly. In my opinion, when you include Division 1A transfers (something that Rivals and none of the cheerleaders on this board do) SMU is getting rather soundly trounced in recruiting by Tulsa, Baylor, TCU, UTEP and by Tulane in the DFW Metroplex. Even SMU's 3 star players could not be called highly recruited-as I've always said pay attention to the offers not the star ratings. Now once you look at Rivals add in about 4-5 great Division 1A transfers for UTEP, TCU, Tulsa and a couple for Baylor. WAAAAAYYYYY too many sleepers in this class and its a definite two steps back from 2003 and 1 step back from 2004.

You cannot "recruit" Div 1-A transfers. They basically have to come looking for you. If they don't contact you, you cannot "recruit" them.

If that's the case, then why are they not contacting SMU. I would think that when kids want to transfer, the school in their hometown would be a nice option. Is it widely considered that SMU is a difficult place to transfer into? Do the players immediately dismiss the idea of SMU as an option? I guess I'm just wondering out loud...but I hate the idea of losing DFW players to Tulsa, Baylor, Tulane, etc.

UTEP-Jake Belsche(Arizona), Jayson Boyd(Ore St), Tyler Ebell(Parade All-American-UCLA), Chris Hurd(Wash St.), Ryan Teofino(UCLA), Marcus Thomas(Parade All-American)
Tulsa-Chadd Evans(Colorado), Bobby Clink(OU), Eric Tibbetts(OSU), Eric Tennial(OU)-there's another OU player transferring whose name I can't recall.
TCU-Darrius Ingram(LSU), Vernon Russell(LSU), Andrew WardColorado-that may have been last year), there's another kid named Gattril (sp) something too among others.

Stallion...are u talking recruits or transfers? What makes a school announce transfers? They must be enrolled already because they do not sign a NLI. Plus, I was not aware those kids were all from DFW.

Why is it assumed that only kids from our area are transfering to the schools mentioned above. For the most part I would think these kids transfer because they are unhappy where they are due to any number of reasons and go to some place they think they can get in to and not lose alot of hours or has the degree program they want. They may transfer to some place where they were recruited before or where their girl friend or other friends go. They may transfer to some place closer to home and Dallas may not be that place. Who knows?

I hate to remind you but Tulane has dominated us in the last couple of games we played (I went to NO with the Mustang Club several years back and the game was the worst part of the trip), and our overall performance since then seems to have gotten worse. But who knows, we might be doing better now.

That's fair. Now, tell us what you expected this year. My gut is that you were preparing to [deleted] no matter WHAT Phil Bennett did this year. We have done well. End of story.

Oh, come on, Stallion likes everybody think he is an expert. And some people actually believe him.

I do not think Stallion has every claimed to be an expert regarding the contents of his posts. One does not need to be an 'expert' to realize that SMU is getting the crap kicked out of it in recruiting when compared to our competition. We always lose out on the top players which is why we get our butts kicked on Saturdays. La. Tech., Tulsa, UTEP, TCU, Fresno St., Boise St., Houston, Hawaii. You ask why am I listing those schools. Those are the teams we have played recently (except Houston) that have been to bowl games within the last few years. SMU, on the other hand, cannot even manage to win more games than it losses. See the problem! Yet, Bennett, Turner, and Copeland shovel bull crap our way every year. How many times have you guys heard "we are young", "we are building the program from the ground up", "we are doing this thing the right way", "we are looking into changes", "the commitment", etc., etc., etc. Meanwhile, the losses continue and the off season rear whippings still occur regularly. Why in the hell is our competition cleaning up with Division 1-A transfers and we are not!? We already have lost most of our fan base. We will continue to lose more and more if changes are not made. If Bennett's focus is recruiting local kids, then why in the hell don't we have more DISD players? Some of the best athletes and football players in the entire country come from a school district in our own backyard. Yet, we can't get them to play football at their home school. Complete and total crap. What does all this rambling mean you ask? More losses and blow-outs next year.

It's a joke. Outside of the losing, nothing bothers me more than our inability or unwillingness to recruit DISD. We currently have a grand total of 4 athletes from DISD schools - football (Darrin Johnson and Desmond Jones), men’s basketball (Hopkins bros). That is unbelievable. Hopefully, Coach Tubbs will do his part to improve that number but there is nothing to indicate any progress in football. Just look at our current class – 21 commitments with ZERO from DISD.

Baylor currently has 9 DISD guys on their football roster with 3 DISD seniors committed.

I'll try to explain this in small words: we hear "we are young," etc., because we ARE young.

Take the total number of players in DISD. Now narrow that pool down to the good athletes. Then further narrow it down to the good players. Then shrink that pool down to the number of players who are good athletes, good players (there's a difference) and who have the grades and test scores to get in to SMU. That pool has shrunk considerably. Finally, from that small pool, take out the studs who get plucked by UT, OU, etc., and you'll see why it's not as if our coaches can just call the coaches at area high schools and tell them where their top players should sign.

Besides, Bennett's initial recruiting focus was a 300-mile radius around Dallas, not the DISD. With some of the East Texas guys he's landed (Dorsey, Lindley, Henderson, etc.) and some others from surrounding areas, he's increasing talent, which will increase wins, which will increase attendance. I don't buy the idea that all of Dallas would turn out to see an SMU team made up of DISD kids if we're not winning. Win, and they will come.
