Let me preface by saying I don't post often on this board, but read it several times a day.

To all of y’all griping about getting beat by Baylor, Houston, Tulane, Tulsa, TCU in recruiting:

It looks like to me we were really focused on increasing our depth on the O and D – lines(especially o-line). Just by eyeballing it, I certainly say that we were not dominated in either of those categories by any of these teams. A lot of the guys we got have those schools on the schools of interest and vice versa. I think it has been said before on the that those positions are harder to evaluate for recruiting services, and that across the board, they don’t receive as high of ratings. We’ve recruited heavily in the “athlete” category over the past few years, and I’m happy that we are picking up a lot of size to help those little fast guys out. I can’t remember a class so heavily weighted with big fellas since before the death penalty. Sure you’ve got to get the best athletes out there but, again, I think it is also pretty clear where our focus on recruiting was this year.

Plus, I think everyone is cautiously optimistic about our Juco recruits. That’s another thing I don’t remember seeing much of at SMU over the past few years.

So here’s a big F U to all you jerks that feel you have to come on this board and [deleted] about the quality of kids that have committed to play for SMU, and then whine about not getting some guy that wanted to go to some other school. There’s a long list of people and events you can blame on why we haven’t had success on the field since the death penalty, but it sure is hell isn’t the quality of this recruiting class.

obviously some of you don't "eye-ball" recruiting very closely because I got at least 6 Linemen committed who have no offers above the Sun Belt level. Who cares how Rivals rates them if they don't get other quality offers.

As far as all the B*tching goes I agree, if you are going to complain about SMU Athletics then do it, but make sure you are complaining about the right things. Bag on adminstration, Bag on the man if you will, but leave the recruits out of it, they have elected to come here and try their best to turn around our program, I know no one is saying our recruit Jo Blowme sucks, but in a round about way you are.

Grider, and as far as the Duck walk, it was well worth it watching you dipsh*ts walk around Dallas Hall looking for me! Oh the good ole days,

I was looking at the schools and interest. And before you start blasting me about the difference between offer and interest, Is someone like Colorado or A&M going to "offer" a kid that's already commited elsewhere unless they think there's a legit shot of them withdrawing there verbal? Point is, you don't know how many of these kids would have gotten offers from their schools of interest if they hadn't commited to SMU.

My point exactly ponydawg, and that Dallas Hall thing still cracks me up!

If they have size and strength, I really don't care who recruited them, we need as many big uglies as we can get to come here. I'd rather have three guys competing for a job and have some depth even if there is a drop off in talent rather than have to shuffle bodies around continuously. Sure I would prefer to beat out UT for a great lineman. But that won't happen in the near future. Are they better than the linemen we recruited in 1999? If they are, then they improve the team. Improvement occurs incrementally. If you get better players, then you should improve your record. As your record improves you get even better players. And so it goes, until you are dueling with UT and A&M.

I do think Enright would have gotten a lot of offers given that he made BOTH LEMMING's and Wallace's Super Prep's preseason list for the state's top recruits. He also made Super Prep's top 99 presigning issue list for Texas. Lemming had Allison rated even higher than Enright pre-season.

Good example.

Mitch commited early & solid to SMU. Who knows if he ran off any possible BCS school recruiters with his solid verbal?

David also committed early (following the TT game) & solid which seemed to slow the recruiting some , however he did recieve a written offfer from UTEP in early December.

Enright also is listed by some as 6'05''. Now everybody go back and check what percentage of Division 1A Offensive Linemen recruits were under 6'1 over the last 5 years. SMU has had way too many I know that but other than SMU it is extremely rare-the vast majority were recruited as a Center. I have no problem with Enright but its also no certainty that a lot of other competitive programs would recruit an OLM that size. In fact, historically as a rule they don't.

From the stands, Enright looks to be closer to 6' than 6'2. But, I always assumed he would be looked at Center. Quick feet covering the outside blitzes in HS, well-schooled under Dodge so could probably call the line keys.

I just went back to original thread on Enright. Stallion, have you not been taking your meds or something? Reading your post above, it seems to completely contadict what you posted a couple of months ago. This is what was posted:

Mitch Enright, a starting guard at Southlake Carroll High School, said Tuesday he has committed to SMU.

"I committed Saturday," Enright said. "It's close to home, and it's a great school. That's the most important thing -- I want to get a great education. I've talked with the coaches, and they really want me there. Coach (Phil) Bennett is a great coach, and I like the challenge of helping turn the program around."

Enright (6-2, 280, 4.9) said he benches 350 pounds, squats 500 and power-cleans 315. He was named first-team all-District 7-5A last year (Southlake Carroll has moved to District 5-5A this year) and was named third-team all-state as a junior by the Texas Sportswriters Association.

Enright chose SMU over Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Baylor, and said that he's already visited those schools, so the only official visit he plans to take is to SMU. He plays guard for the Dragons, but said he expects to play center at SMU.


"That (center) is where I want to play in college anyway," he said. "I'm not as tall as most offensive linemen, but I can move pretty well on pulling plays."

Interesting Center prospect with some nice verified tools. Rivals doesn't list any other offers but did state Iowa and A&M were interested(older report). The interesting part is his performance at the Nike College Station camp I nentioned the other day in reference to First Team Texas Football Super Team Blake Kerley. I mentioed that they had a torrential rainfall and some of the times might be suspect depending on whether it was affected by the weather. Enright performed outstandingly in comparison to the other top prospects there. He was measured at 6-1, 282(no big deal for a center-mainlty All-Americans have been 6-1 or 6-2) . There were approximately 35 OLM and his results and approximate rank among OLM are as follows; 40 yard dash-5.16(8th-the fastest OLM only ran a 5.0); Bench Repetitions: 25(7th among OLM-16 among all positions), Vertical Leap- 24.1(6th), Shuttle Time 4.59(3rd). I think he beat Super Teamer Kerley at all 4 events. He appears to be a damn good athlete especially for a Center

BTW Enright made the Texas Football Top 25 for Offensive Lineman so he seems to be a pretty highly regarded recruit.

Wow! the info keeps getting better the closer you look. He is rated a 3 star recruit on the Insiders-SMU has signed only a handful of players off that list in the last few years. He is the No. 85 recruit on the Insiders' Southwest Hot 100(which apparently includes Texas, New Mexico and Arizona). According to 5A Texas Football he made (preseason)FIRST TEAM All Texas.

...and more-made his first High School start as a Freshman in a superior program like Southlake Carroll-that's says a lot right there. Now has 42 consecutive high school starts ENTERING his senior year. Rivals(Orangebloods) in February called him an elite prospect and noted he had received All-State recognition as both a Sophmore and Junior.
