Arlington Bowie's Sherrod Harris. Harris

Postby Ponymon » Sun Feb 20, 2005 10:26 am

Rivals has an article on one of the nation's top dual threat quarterbacks in the class of 2006 is Grand Prairie (Texas) Arlington Bowie's Sherrod Harris 6-3, 205 pounds. His sophomore year when he threw for just over 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns with just three picks. His numbers dropped a year ago as the signal caller threw for 964 yards and four touchdowns with nine picks. He did rush for 413 yards and five scores and is drawing national interest on the recruiting side right now.

He has offers from Syracuse and Oklahoma State and ishearing from Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, Florida State, Michigan, UCLA and USC. His top 5 are Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Michigan.

Academically, Harris is carrying a 4.2 GPA and scored a 1310 on the SAT. He'll attend the Nike Camp in Fort Worth in April but is unsure about the rest of his summer camp plans.

I assume that he qualifies academically, given his grades and SAT. Since he is concerned about going to a school with good academics and he is local, it is disappointing that we are not listed as a consideration. The positive, however, is that TCU also appears to be left out of the equation!

It would seem that Rivals just wants to keep you TCU folks happy on your TCU.Rivals.com site. The Rivals site at the DMN has no mention of TCU:

Sherrod Harris
Schools in the Running

Florida State Medium

Miami-FL Medium

Michigan Medium

Oklahoma State Medium

Stanford Medium

Texas Medium

Texas A&M Medium

And that's all folks.

quotes from Harris tell a different story, he really likes Patterson and has been to a few TCU games over the past couple of years.

There's a good chance you might both be right. Harris might well have said he likes Patterson, Frogtown, etc. But PK also is right in the sense that recruiting services will latch on to any shred of interest a player has in a place, in the hope that they can tickle the fans of each school enough to buy a subscription.

No doubt about that in the least. There are pluses and minuses to that and for TCU a strong Rivals site may not be the best thing for recruiting. The Rivals guys were totally clueless on most of the big name recruits for TCU last year and definitely had not even heard of some guys the coaches really liked, went after and signed (Tim Jackson, Rafael Preist and especially Nick Sanders). Those types of players may not be able to be kept quiet about in the future.

To follow Rivals just gives in to their whole sucker mentality.
