SMU is adding a seventh degree granting school June 1, the School of Education and Human Development. One aspect of the new school is to create programs in human development. I would think this new school might add some degree opportunities that would be helpful in recruiting.

Very important announcement for the university with greater alternatives and prospects for student-athletes.

The new School of Education and Human Development (EHD) creates certificate programs with the availability of a graduate degree. Schools like Vanderbilt uses this program to attract recruits, who want teaching and coaching careers.

The new school will start June 1st.

This is really good news.

By the way, is your quote at the bottom of your post pointed at our friend Stallion?

I would love there to be a coach's breakfast during spring practice, so I could ask what this means for Juco recruiting.

No, it is not pointed at Stallion, who I have disagreed with in the past. At least he is fact-based. My point is the "fire the adminstration, fire the AD, and fire the coaches" mentality of some on this board, who SIMPLY think demanding accountability equates to cleaning house. This is naive when you look at our recent history (DP, record, coaching turnover, etc.) and think that they could fix it by firing everyone. As if we are a dream job for a high performer.

Given our circumstances, e.g. private school with good academic credentials, in a mid-Major Conference (who didn't have a logical, geographically oriented conference until this coming year) and the absence of a huge alumni base/state school advantages, SMU is better off than we deserve given this inherited circumstances.

However, NOW we can expect better performance with improved recruiting, access to JC students, greater flexibility in accepting student-athletes, great new on-campus stadium and a coaching staff what has the tools/players/commitment needed to get to .500 this year!!!!!

I agree that this is fantastic news, and long overdue. Now we can compete for those players who want to become coaches, etc.

So let me get this straight... You all have blasted TCU for years about some of the degrees we offer (namely education), and now that SMU offers a similar program, it's fantastic???

The Education program is not one of the TCU degree programs we have blasted in the past...it's that basket weaving degree program we've blasted... :D
