SMU gets commitment from power forward

UNIVERSITY PARK – Brian Morris, a 6-9 ½ power forward from Jefferson High in Portland, Ore., said he made an oral commitment to SMU over the weekend. He said he would sign a letter of intent in the late signing period that starts Wednesday.

Morris, who averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds a game, picked SMU over Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Fresno State, Washington State and San Diego.

Briefly ...

SMU men's assistant basketball coach Dean Christian applied for the Virginia Military Institute head coaching job. He is not one of the two finalists.

My comment: I'm skeptical but it would be great if he really were 6-9 1/2. I've seen him listed as anywhere from 6-7 to 6-9. Sometimes big kids keep growing like Koncak but I'll believe when I see it.

Would suggest reading the thread on the basketball board on Morris, Oregonpreps has given some decent insight.

Sounds from that though that Morris might be a year away from being the impact player that he surely will be with SMU.
