Early Recruiting

Does it worry anyone else that we have yet to sign anyone while the Texas Big XII including Baylor and even TCU and Houston, Tulane and Tulsa have gotten guys on board. On the other hand there is no holding these early signees sometimes anyway. I am often surprised we recruit as well as we do considering our performance on the field, our alumni support in the stands, not to mention lack of support from the DMN, and our non-BCS status. It is a credit to the tradition of SMU, the fact we are considered a "good" school and probably location in Dallas. Should I worry? Of course winning this year may cure the problem.

my concern is that we've heard so little following the June camps. July 23rd remains the critical date as that's the senior camp where scholarship offers tend to follow. I'd like to see some guys commit BEFORE the season starts, but let's face it...we really need to beat Baylor or TCU to show this year's H.S. seniors that you can be part of a winning program at SMU. I expect those 1st two games will have a great gameday atmosphere and big crowds. Gotta accomplish something early.

That's another reason we SHOULDN'T have the BU game televised. Even if a recruit is considering playing for them (can you imagine WANTING to go to Waco for four years?), they need to be IN Ford Stadium. They need to see the opening day crowd, the cheerleaders, and watch the Ponies beat Baylor.

That's a rather weak argument, IMO. SMU and Baylor both need any television exposure they can get. With both schools having a huge DFW alumni base, the crowd will be no problem, television or not.
