Tubbs better realize his job is on the line with these recruits he is failing to sign. He was supposed to get the local talent to SMU. So far he has failed to do this. Losing out on these recruits to schools like Baylor, and nonranked out of state schools does not bode well for SMU basketball.

Getting high profile recruits to come to SMU is not going to be easy for any coach as long as our facilities lag so far behind everyone else's ( with the exception of Rice...damn I'm surprized they can get anyone to come play there).

One recruiting class and his job is on the line? That's a little premature, don't you think?

Premature? I don't think so. Name me one high profile recruit Tubbs has gotten since he has been here? How many seasons of poor recruiting does it take to determine the thing ain't working. Hopefully, Tubbs will be able to pull something out of his hat this year before all of the good players have commited elsewhere. After all, he was hired due to his abilty to recruit local talent. It is not a good sign for the head coach when Baylor who almost got the death penalty out recruits you. Facts are facts. I did not make the reality that is SMU athletics. SMU did. Unfortuneatly, I am a fan and have to watch this crap every year.

I wouldn't say Tubbs has been non-competitive in Recruiting-Williamham is a former National Top 45, the Oregon kid is a moderately recruited player and Bamba although a project is the type of big upside project that makes the risk interesting. But there is disappointment that he has largely been shutout of the very rich DFW Metroplex High School recruiting-and that my friends is the only reason he got the job.

Now I am a well-known Tubbs apologist, so take this with a grain of salt. I realize it is little consolation when you don't land the big fish, but with Tubbs at the helm we've had more nibbles from DFW's finest in three years then we did with Dement in, what, eight? And what few we got in Dement's tenure came from Tubbs' efforts. So don't write him off yet. However, my fear is that landing one stud won't do it. We need to land two studs in the same class to kick start this program, which is a tough job.

Having said that, believe me I am well aware of the horseshoes and hand grenades argument....

If I was a DISD high school coach, I'd be in hiding right now. I mean they go en mass to Copeland and say, hire Jimmy Tubbs, he'll deliver the goods. If I was Copeland, I'd be calling them at this point and say, "Show me the money".

We all hope Jimmy does well, but clearly there is precedence here…PB had a 2 year recruiting honeymoon; then disaster struck.

Not saying same will occur with Tubbs, but there has to be some concern.

Actually, Tubbs needs to be making that call.
