Midway through the season and Bennett is tearing it up on the recruiting trail. He has two commitments for next season and these guys have no other Division 1-A offers yet. Apparently, Texas, OU, and USC backed off these players after they knew SMU and Bennett were invovled. Hats off to Bennett and his coaching staff for a great job so far. Keep it up guys...we all are so proud of you!

Actually, having a track team can help recruit sprinter/cornerbacks and wideouts. Very short-sighted decision.

SMU's National top ten track program was scrapped, because of Copeland's failure to raise funds. Something had to be cut.

Just another reason he needs to be run out of town on a rail!

I don't think there is any question but that SMU needs to win 2-3 games to finish this season in order to have any hopes whatsoever of attracting the "best of the rest" in the 11th hour recruiting wars. In case nobody has noticed, the purple menace of cowtown has only 3 commitments to show for their reasonably impressive start this year.

Funny, that's a far cry from some of the preseason 6-5 and 7-4 predictions I remember reading on this board. Man we are bad.

JT: you know I'm at least a borderline sunshiner because I really do think there is hope for this program. However, when I said coming into this season that we could be a better team than last year and might still not find 3 wins on the schedule, I think that was pretty realistic prediction.
If part of "selling" SMU is convincing kids we really can win here, I think the ECU and Rice games have become "must wins" unless we figure out how to surprise Houston, Tulsa or UTEP. I'm certainly not optimistic about today's game.
As for the true sunshiners who felt this team was going bowling...well, sometimes I wish I had that kind of optimism myself. I suppose life is simpler if/when you choose not to deal with reality
