I will guess out of 17 ships we offer JUCO's 5 of them - anyone disagree?

I have heard that number from some of the insiders.

My pick, given this season, is 7 JUCO players.

We have two commits already so we are up to 9. LOL I don't really know but we do need some good JUCO help.

So am I. I bet we offer 10-12. Sign maybe 6-8.

I don't mind if we sign 17 jucos. Is there any question that we need to do anything we can to at least have one good season? I say sell out if we need to, 2010 be damned.

I did not mean to imply it would be a bd thing - in fact - the more the better.

You can only go with a class full (or nearly full) of JUCOs if you have a full stable of freshmen and redshirts waiting in the wings, and while our cast of youngsters is lightyears ahead of where it was five years ago, I don't think we're so stocked that we can go entirely (or thereabouts) with JUCOs just yet. I'd say 6-8 would be ideal.

ALthough if we are trying to get the recruiting momentum back the best way to do that would be to win. If we pull in a full class of jucos this year that can actually help us win games next year, and enough games that we go to a bowl.....then I think it could be better. you do that 2-3 years in a row until you have established enough winning momentum that high school kids want to come to your program because you win, then you start cutting back on the number of jucos to just fill holes, and spend the majority of the ships on high school kids that you can develop. It is what we should have done in Bennett's first year, or Cavan's first year, or Rosselly's first year, or in Gregg's first year. If we had, we would probably be a very different program now.

yes yes yes yes..juco is a good way to go...get about 5 quality jucos to come in and contribute right away...every year....nothing wrong with that

I hope we just don't sign bodies but 5 quality JUCOs especially to fill the huge holes left by Lee, Humphrey, Nnabufie, Harper, and the immediate need for depth at LB could go along way in putting this team over the top. I was encouraged by the open field tackling of our young CB prospects yesterday but I just don't see many definite answers for these losses on the roster right now. I think the number may go up because we just haven't been very successful this year getting some of the freshmen targets we were after so far-hopefully that too will improve with the 3 game winning streak. I can't say enough how crucial these wins were in recruiting to build this program. Bennett's hand has been significantly strengthed over the last 3 games.

So when does the JUCO signing period begin. Can we get any of these guys into school for the Spring?

Absolutely -- they can sign sometime in December, and then enroll in January (like most of UTEP's class last year did).

it is generally December 15 or so. They are already well into the visiting period which generally begins with the end of the JUCO season. I wouldn't be surprised if we had several on campus this weekend-there were a ton of recruits at the game

I believe that we will take at least 5, but up to 7.

1 QB, 1 OL, 1 DL, 1 OLB, 1 CB, possibly a FS.

I wouldn't rule out a P or K either, just to get some older folks in here at those positions.

Also, for those counting scholarships, I think the DS is not on scholarship, and since he settled things down after being put on the field, I would expect him to get one... and our backup P is not on scholarship, and if he wins the job in the spring, you would expect him to get one.
