Darrell Arthur to wait until spring

Postby Thumper » Sat Nov 12, 2005 1:34 am

According to his AAU coach, Darrell Arthur will wait until the spring to sign a letter of intent.

“That’s what (Darrell) decided after the last visit,” said Arthur’s AAU Coach, Jazzy Hartwell. “He wants to wait and see where the coaches are going to be.”

The 6-9, 215-pound Arthur, the 12th-ranked player nationally according to Scout.com, took official visits to North Carolina, Indiana, Kansas, SMU and Baylor, and has also continued to have some interest in Texas. North Carolina is no longer being considered because Coach Roy Williams’ team has used up all of its available scholarships.

Hartwell said Indiana and Kansas appear to be the leaders.

Arthur’s decision to wait, meanwhile, might lead some new programs to try to get involved with him as well. But Hartwell said that’s not going to happen.

“We’re not going to (open it back up),” said Hartwell. “It would be a zoo. I’ve gotten calls already. People think he’s not happy with the schools he’s chosen. That’s not the case.”

Arthur averaged 22 points, 17 rebounds and five blocks per game as a junior at South Oak Cliff H.S., helping lead the team to the Texas Class 4A state championship.

If he's wanting to see where the coaches are going to be, the only program for whom that would seem to be an issue is Indiana, right?

I should invite Darrell to come with me on one of my trips to Indiana in December, January or February. Oh, well that would be a violation so I won't. At any rate, there's times when I leave the valley and it's in the 80s, meanwhile it's a balmy 7 in Indy. Someone tell him it's friggin cold and grey. There's a reason 144,000 people migrate from the Midwest (read: Kansas and Indiana) to Texas every winter. It's f'in cold!!

And comparing the "scenery" at IU to the scenery at SMU is like comparing your intramural basketball team to the San Antonio Spurs.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
...
"Hit it."
