Dodge City (Kan.) College quarterback Omar Haugabook (6-1, 205) played his last JC game today, a bowl game loss to Cisco JC. Despite an outstanding career at DCCC, he is receiving only tepid, at best, interest from D1 colleges.

“I’m not getting recruited like I thought I was, but I’m here, ready to go in December if someone offers me,” said Haugabook. “If I don’t get any offers, than it means that football must be ending for me.”

Surprising, considering the numbers that Haugabook has put up, and the attitude and leadership in which he’s shown for Dodge City.

He’s set several passing records for the Conquistadors, and after going 161-for-279 for 2261 and 20 touchdowns, with another 322 yards rushing and 2 scores, he’s got Dodge City in the Heart Of Texas Bowl this weekend.

“I’m not frustrated because I have one more game left to show what I can do,” said Haugabook.

While the offers have been slow to come in, Haugabook has been hearing from a pair of schools.

“Kansas State and SMU have been calling and I have a trip to Louisiana Tech on the 9th of December that I’m going to be taking,” said Haugabook. “I’m going to play quarterback, that’s for sure.”

With three years to play two, Haugabook said he will have his A.A. in December and be ready for Spring Practice wherever he signs.

“I feel like I should be playing at the D-I Level. I came out here to prove to everyone I could play quarterback, and I think I did. My first year out here, I did good things, and set a lot of records and did more of the same this year,” Haugabook said.

Of course, Cisco JC which beat his team is QBed by the Johnson kid we are also looking at. I bet I know where Jim Gush was this weekend. Good to see that Haugenbook is going to graduate at mid-term- I just wonder who SMU wants the most since neither Danna or Haugenbook have been offered. I wonder if there still might be some qualification issues at SMU-he seems like a pretty good prospect unless thay got another they want more or there is an academic issue. Of course, Rivals says we have offered Johnson not to mention High Schooler Clark Harrell so we may be waiting on them.

I personally love this kid. Anyone from the Glades in florida is a competitor and he has the stats to prove he can throw the ball.

I just hope we don't wait so long to make a decision on him that we have it made for us.

Update today is that we have gone ahead and offered Omar Haugabook, hopefully we pull one of these JC QBs

I think we have pulled off of Harrell also. I am guessing that we go and get either Haugabook or the Blinn QB. We will also try to get Johnson as an athlete and see whether he projects as a WR or QB after he gets on campus.

If we get two QBs AND Johnson, that would be an indication that the coaches do not expect Phillips to fully recover from injury.

What HS QB's have we offered? Are we only offering JUCO's?

me@SMU-there has been an article in a local Kansas paper over the weekend -see above-which says NOBODY has offered Omar Hogenbook, but that SMU was still calling so I'm assuming Rivals has incorrect information since their report of an SMU offer was much earlier. Something to me seems fishy about why NOBODY has offered this guy. Could be an academic issue-don't know-this is simply a guess but he looks like a good propect with height, speed, stats and results who schools were interested but for some reason have backed off.

If I remeber correctly, this guy had I-A offers out of HS, but went to JuCo because he wanted to play QB, which nobody was interested in letting him do.

hypothetically it could be that or hypothetically he could have bombed remedial math. I mean one Division 1A coach told his coach that he was the No. 1 JC Player in Country a few months ago-now nothing-and yes I realize coaches lie. Have to wait and see.

Haugabook is a mystery...FSU's scout page has him listed as one of their top prospects. Also have him marked at a 4 star athlete.

Should note that he was in the contention to be an elite 11 QB back in 2003...not to mention being all-state in florida as an "athlete". First Team QB that year was FSU's Xavier Lee...but all accounts he was second best in the state that year.

As for the offer or not...not sure what to say other than yesterday he didn't show an offer from SMU and today he does.

Rivals shows:
Joe Danna (JC), Clark Harrell (HS), Omar Haugabook (JC), Marcus Johnson (JC), Zac Rhodes (HS - Commit)

We of course offered all the big names as well, but don't rank high enough to be on the list anymore.

and as I mentioned above that offer to Danna may be premature as well according to an article in Rivals Sunday. Danna appeared to be saying he was waiting on SMU. He is scheduled to visit SMU I think this weekend so perhaps it will be cleared up then. Some school like you to visit before they formally offer.

So is Haugabook being offered as a QB or as an "athlete"?

I am not doubting the confusion with the offers...no one really knows except the coaches and the players.

As for being recruited as a QB or athlete, Haugabook mentioned that he is going looking to play QB so perhaps that is why the majors haven't been calling.

How many would we take?
